William was born circa 1730 at Accomack Co, VA. He was the son of Geodiah Bell and Sarah (18) Bradford. He married Anne 'Nancy' Elliott circa 1765. According to Rev. John W.A. Elliott's Ledger Book, Anne Elliott the only daughter was much petted and was not deprived of anything that would be to her comfort. It was the custom of young ladies to practice the riding on horseback. She became very expert on the saddle, and frequently visited her mother's relations in Northampton. She was handsome. Her feats of horse riding procured quite a sensation on the young fellows whom she met, so that quite a rivalry for the gay young damsel arose. Finally a Mr. Bell gained the suite, and they were married. Wedding parties went the rounds, dancing was very fashionable at these early times. After through with their parties the wife wished to settle in the neighborhood of her father and bought and situated themselves on Machipongo, built the house now known as Thomas H. Bell's, one of the descendants. Their family was large and a large descent, many of the great-grandchildren yet remain..2,3,4 He made a will on 26 September 1797 at Accomack Co, VA. To son John Bell the land on eastern & northern part of my land adjoining Thomas H. Bradford's land. To sons William Bell & Anthony part of plantation to be divided. Anthony Bell to have the house. To son George Bell £100. To daughter Famey Mears ... To wife Ann Bell ... To son Anthony Bell my still & my other sons John, Geodiah, William & George the use of the still.
