     In early days the south fork of Onancock Creek separating A71 from A63 was known as Jenkins' Branch, much later as Joynes' Branch, then as White's Branch, but today the name Joynes' Branch is back in use (Whitelaw, p. 932) (Note: It would have been named after John Jenkins, who first patented land in this area.). John was born circa 1615. He was aged about 50 years on 17 Jan 1665/66..1 He married Margaret (-----) circa 1644. Margritt was his wife when he sold land on 5 Dec 1662 to John Brookes..2 John patented land in 1661 at Accomack Co, VA. In was in this year that John Jenkins received his own patent for land in tract A33, which the next year he assigned to John Brookes. John Williams had assigned John Jenkins his 250 acres just a few years earlier..3 John sold land on 5 December 1662 at Accomack Co, VA. At a court held in Acc Co on 10 Nov 1663 it was recorded that - Francis Moryson, Governor, granted John Jenkins 250 acres on the south side of Pungoteage River, bounded by Pokomoke Creek, the land of Thomas Teackle, the land of Anthony Johnson, Negro, and the land of John Johnson, Negro. The land had originally been patented on 17 Mar 1655, to Jno. Williams. Signed 20 Oct 1661, by Francis Moryson and Tho. Ludwell. On 5 Dec 1662, John Jenkins and his wife Margritt sold the land to John Brookes. Signed, John (II) Jenkins and Margrit (mark) Jenkins. Witnesses: Thomas Monfort and John Williams. Recorded 8 Dec 1662 by Robt. Hutchinson..2 John appears on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, for in 1663. He was shown as Jno. Jenkins and had 3 tithables..4 John appears on the list of tithables at Accomack Co, VA, for in 1664. He was shown as Jno. Jenkins with only one tithable..5 John patented land in 1666 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that a patent was issued to John Jenkins for 1,200 acres in tract A63 between two maine branches of Onancock Creek making Egg Neck. It extended southeast from Mount Prospect and took in the part of the present town of Onley and vicinity..6 He made a will on 9 October 1685 at Accomack Co, VA. To eldest daughter Elenor Jenkins 200 acres being part of the divident where I now live. To second daughter Margaret Jenkins 200 acres of said tract where Steven Warrington now lives, reserving to the said Warrington 4 years possession thereof. To third daughter Ann Jenkins 200 acres of said tract. To grandson Joh Warrington, son of Steven Warrington, 200 acres where I now live. To son John plantation where I now live, being 400 acres. Son John & daughters residual legatees. Son John Extr.
