     He and his father Custis Northam were just about the only Northam heads of households in St. George Parish in the 1850 census. His father was a wheelwright in 1850 & David was wheelwright in 1860. His tombstone in Onancock Cem. shows his middle name as Benson, which first lead me to believe he was the son of Col. James Northam who's mother was Sally Benson. David was born on 10 May 1819 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He was the son of Custis Northam and Ann 'Nancy' Boggs. He married Juliet A. Carmine on 1 April 1846 at Accomack Co, VA.3 David was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown David Northam the head of HH#1290, age 31 and a farmer. Listed with him were the following Northams: Juliet, age 30; Jams, age 3; Hariet, age 1; and a Betsey Bull, age 5. This was probably the southern tip of Smith Island which was in Virginia..4 David was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as the head of HH#366, aged 40 and a wheelwright with personal property valued at $450. Listed with him were the following Northams: Juliet A., age 36; James C., age 12; Mary A., age 10; Sarah, age 7; Charles, age 5; Rose, age 4; Triphina, age 2; not named, age 1/12; and Harriet E. Bull, age 18..5 David died on 13 September 1864 at age 45.2 His body was interred at Onancock Cem, Acc Co, VA.2

     Juliet was born on 11 May 1825 at Accomack Co, VA.1 She married John R. Bull on 7 October 1840 at Accomack Co, VA.2 She married David Benson Northam on 1 April 1846 at Accomack Co, VA.2 Juliet was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Juliet Northam, age 30 in HH#1290 headed by David Northam, a 31 year old farmer. Also listed below their Northam children was Betsey Bull, age 5, who was evidently her daughter by a prior marriage. This was probably the southern tip of Smith Island which was in Virginia..3 Juliet was listed with her husband in the census of in 1860 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.4 Juliet died on 1 March 1909 at age 83.1 Her body was interred at Onancock Cem, Acc Co, VA.1
