     James E. Marshall inherited the store at Messongo from his father. Mrs. Frederick C. Hill of Messongo, VA, has given information on James E. Marshall and his family. Mr. James E. Marshall of Messongo died on 30 Mar 1963, aged 84 years. He was the son of the late Richard T. and Melinda White Marshall. Burial was at Downing's Cemetery. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 4 Apr 1963). James was born on 12 July 1878 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He was the son of Richard Thomas Marshall and Malinda Ambert White. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Accomack Co, VA.3 James was on the in 1908 roll of the at Pocomoke Meth Ch, Grotons, Acc Co, VA.4 He married Althea Mae Hart on 19 November 1917 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA.1 James was living in 1947 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.5 James died on 30 March 1963 at age 84.6,2 His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.7

He was shown as Thomas Trader, age 12 in HH#1072 headed by Thomas Hall Sr, a 63 year old farmer with real estate valued at $3,000..2 Thomas was listed with his mother in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Thomas Trader, a 22 year old sailor in HH#248 headed by Nancy Trader, age 50..3 He married Sarah Jane Marshall on 6 January 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.4 Thomas died on 5 August 1915 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.5 His body was interred at Messongo Baptist Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA.6

     Matilda Marshall's Acc birth record shows her being born in Messongo the d/o William and Amelia S. Marshall. Matilda J. (Marshall) Marshall was on the roll of the Pocomoke Meth Ch, Grotons, VA, from 1898 to 1917. There is no doubt that Matilda J. Marshall was a daughter of William Marshall and his wife Pamelia, or that her sister, Sarah A. Marshall, had married Samuel F. Marshall, brother to Matilda's husband Debracy Thomas Marshall, for Matilda J. died testate in 1927, leaving her property to her brother Lee A. Marshall and to William H. Vickers, the Holiness minister. Her heirs were listed under her will. They included Samuel F. Marshall's older children, as neices and nephews, two brothers (Thomas and Lee) and other neices and nephews. Her will and this list of heirs show that Matilda J. (Marshall) Marshall and husband, Debracy Thomas Marshall, had no children. Matilda J. Marshall, widow of the late D.T. Marshall of Mearsville, died on 9 Jan 1927. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. Vickers at the Groton's Holiness Church. She was survived by two brothers, Thomas Marshall of Belinda and Capt. Lee Marshall of Makemie Park (E.S. News, 14 Jan 1927). Matilda was born on 20 November 1854 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.1 She was the daughter of William Marshall and Pamelia S. Knight.
