     Anna was living at Portsmouth, VA.¹ Anna was born circa 1858 at Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Charles T. Myers Jr. and Mary (-----). She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Jackson Ward, Portsmouth, Norfolk Co, VA.¹

     Triffinoh was born circa 1743.² She married Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. circa 1770.³ Triffinoh died circa 1835.²

     Samuel Washington Marshall was referred to as Washington Marshall in Acc Co records, but signed his will on 25 Jan 1887 in Gloucester Co, VA, as Samuel Washington Marshall. He was the male in Samuel Marshall's household in 1820 aged 16-18, which put his birth at circa 1802. The 1850 census showed his birth was in 1800. He was named as the only living son of Samuel Marshall, when Samuel died in 1835. Washington, aged 30-40, was head of an Acc Co household in 1840, with a wife of the same age. There were three males under 5 in the household and one male 10-15. There was also a female aged 15-20. Washington Marshall, aged 50, oysterman, was also head of an Acc Co household in 1850. His wife Susan was then 42. Washington's name, with his wife and four youngest children, does not appear in the Acc Co 1860 Census. Evidently he and most of his family moved to Gloucester Co, VA, before 1860. His son George was in Saxis in 1860 and moved to Gloucester Co between 1860 and 1870. In 1880, Washington Marshall, age 78 and a farmer, was the head of household #153 in Abington Dist, Gloucester Co, VA. Living with him were: his wife Susan, age 78; a servant Tyler Smith, male age 40; L. Dow Marshall, age 37 and an oysterman; his wife Malissa, age 23; and thier children Columbus, age 3; Adilade, age 1; and Harrison, age 1/12 born in April. Washington's son George David Marshall was the head of household #151 and another son, Samuel K. Marshall, was the head of household #150. In Samuel Washington Marshall's will, written in Gloucester Co, VA, on 25 Jan 1887, he left his real estate and personal property to his wife Susanna Marshall and upon her death the real estate was to be divided between three sons: George David, Samuel K., and L. Dow Marshall. He also mentioned his daughter Mary Jane Sparrow and son William J. Marshall. He did not mention two other known sons: John H. and Columbus Marshall. However, he did state, "I should have divided my little effects equally between all of my children, but the portion would have been so small to each, that I do not think any of them would have been materially benefitted. Hence, I have left out those whom I think can best do without it." Most of the information on Washington and his descendants were submitted by Jeanne (Marshall) Schlegel of Norfolk, VA, his great-great grand-daughter. His common name was Washington. Samuel was born in 1802 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. and Triffinoh (-----). He married Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow on 18 January 1825 at Worcester Co, MD. He was shown as Wash'ton Marshall the head of HH#1006, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150. Listed with him were the following Marshalls: Susan, age 42; George D., age 14; John H., age 12; Kendall, age 10; Lorenso D., age 8; and Columbus, age 4. Also listed was Ann Ward, age 13..⁴ Samuel was living after 1860 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁵ Samuel died in 1890.⁵ Samuel's will was probated on 6 October 1890 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁵

     Susanna was born circa 1808 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of (-----) Sparrow. She married Samuel Washington Marshall on 18 January 1825 at Worcester Co, MD. He was shown as Washington Marshall and she as Susan Sparrow. No other information was given..³ Susanna was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Susan Marshall, age 42 in HH#1006 headed by Wash'ton Marshall, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150..⁴ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁵ Susanna died circa 1889.

     George was born circa 1831 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Zachariah 'Zac' Marshall and Zipporah 'Zippie' Evans. George was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as George Marshall, a 19 year old laborer in HH#796 headed by Zachariah Marshall, a 50 year old farmer. This was on Saxis Island..²

     John was born circa 1838 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow. John was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John H. Marshall, age 12 in HH#1006 headed by Wash'ton Marshall, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150..² John was living after 1850 at West Point, VA.³ He married Elvira Elizabeth Ironmonger on 7 March 1865.⁴

     In 1880, Samuel K. Marshall, age 37 and a sailor, was the head of household #150 in Abington Dist, Gloucester Co, VA. Living with him were: his wife Elizabeth, age 35; a son George Washington Marsahll, age 16 and a sailor; a father-in-law Jacob Sparrow, age 80; a mother-in-law Delila Sparrow, age 75; and a servant, Elithia Fend(?), age 22. In 1900, "Carn" Marshall, age 60 and an oysterman, was the head of househould #283 in Abington Dist, Gloucester Co, VA. Living with him were his wife Lizzie, age 57 and a neice, Dahl, age 5. According to The Daily Press of Newport New - Hampton, VA, Sunday, 20 Feb 1966, S.K. (Samuel Kendall) Marshall was the owner of the Ruby and Bessie, a two-masted schooner registered out of West Point, VA. The Ruby and Bessie was built in Gloucester Co in 1902 by George W. Marshall (assumed to be S.K.'s son). She measured 105 feet in length and was rigged with fore and main topmasts and was considered a fast vessel. She carried trades outside the Chesapeake Bay to the Bahamas and even set a record. Evidently she was named after George's sisters, Ruby and Bessie. Samuel was born circa 1840 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow. Samuel was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Kendall Marshall, age 10 in HH#1006 headed by Wash'ton Marshall, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150..² Samuel was living after 1850 at Gloucester Co, VA.³ He married Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Sparrow on 6 January 1860 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁴ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁵

     Lorenzo was born circa 1842 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow. Lorenzo was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Lorenso D. Marshall, age 8 in HH#1006 headed by Wash'ton Marshall, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150..² Lorenzo was living after 1850 at Gloucester Co, VA.³ He married Malysia Jane West circa 1876.⁴ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Gloucester Co, VA.⁴ He married Emelina (-----) circa 1882.⁵ He married Elizabeth (-----) circa 1885.⁵ Lorenzo was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1900 at Gloucester Co, VA. Living with him were: his son "Hairston", age 21 and a sailor; his daughter "Edva", age 15; and his son George, age 13..⁶

     Columbus was born circa 1846 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow. Columbus was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Columbus Marshall, age 4 in HH#1006 headed by Wash'ton Marshall, a 50 year old oysterman with real estate valued at $150..²

     Bette was born on 1 September 1864.¹ She was the daughter of James M. Lyell and Frances Elizabeth 'Bette' Munday. She married William Thomas Marshall on 1 May 1884 at Essex Co, VA.² Bette died on 28 December 1946 at Middlesex Co, VA, at age 82.¹ Her body was interred at Forest Lawn Cem, Norfolk, VA.¹

     According to James H. Marshall of NJ, by 1900 this line of descendents resided in Norfolk, VA. Thomas was born on 26 October 1891. He was the son of William Thomas Marshall and Bette Alice Lyell. He married Anna May Litchfield on 25 August 1925 at Washington, DC.² Thomas died on 11 July 1972 at age 80. His body was interred at Forest Lawn Cem, Norfolk, VA.

     Anna was born on 27 February 1889 at Terrell Co, NC. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Augustus Litchfield and Phebe M. Cooper. She married Thomas Wesley Marshall on 25 August 1925 at Washington, DC.² Anna died on 28 March 1984 at age 95. Her body was interred at Forest Lawn Cem, Norfolk, VA.

     William Marshall's birth date of circa 1795 is estimated from the date of his marriage and a male under 10 in father Samuel's household in 1800 Census. William Marshall, "son of Samuel," married Famey Hutson. William was likely living with his father, Samuel Marshall, in 1820, aged 16-26. On 1 Dec 1820, "William Marshall of Samuel" witnessed the will of Neicy Bell (Acc Wills 1823-1824, p. 177). William of Samuel bought 50 acres on the North end of Saxis Island, from Thomas Fletcher and wife Eliza S., on 1 Feb 1823 for $100 (Acc Deeds 1822-24, p. 266), the land was bounded on the North by Pocomoke Sound, on the East by Sanford's Charity land, on the South by Nathan Linton, and on the West by Revel Lewis. William Marshall of Samuel died intestate by 27 Feb 1826, when, his widow relinquishing, Jesse Dickerson was named to administer his estate (Acc Orders 1824-26, p. 275). No record has been found of William Marshall of Samuel selling his land. His administrator did not sell it between 27 Feb 1826 and 27 July 1829, when the court ordered an audit of Dickerson's settlement of William's estate (Acc Orders 1827-29, p. 589). No record has been found of his widow remarrying, nor was she head of a household in 1830 or later. It appears his father Samuel sold William's land on 2 Sep 1826, to Aaron Marshall and Zachariah Marshall, as 50 acres on Saxis Island for $125 (Deeds 1827-28, p. 347). The boundaries given in this deed were: West and North by Pocomoke Sound, East by Sanford's Charity land and South by Nathan Linton. This would indicate William's wife died soon after her husband and that they had no children. William was the administrator of Elizabeth Hutson (his mother-in-law) at whose estate sale, on 11 Sep 1823, 8 Bayside Marshall's were purchasers. Zachariah bought a loom; Gillet bought a black heifer; William bought a spider, a milk pan & platter, a pare of line turns, etc; James bought 3 earthen boles & a coffee mill; Aaron, Kitty or Hetty, Washington and Sampson also made purchases (Acc Co Wills 1824-1825, p. 2). William was born circa 1795.¹ He was the son of Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. and Triffinoh (-----). He married Famey Hudson on 30 January 1817 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ William died in 1826.

     Fanney (Hutson) Marshall's mother could have been Elizabeth, as William Marshall was the administrator in charge of selling Elizabeth Huston's personal property on 11 Sep 1823 (Acc Wills 1824-25, p. 2). Marshalls who bought at the sale were: Zachariah, Gillet, William, James, Aaron, Samson, Washington and Hetty/Kitty. Famey was born circa 1795.² She was the daughter of Robert Hudson and Elizabeth (-----). She married William Marshall on 30 January 1817 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     Elizabeth "Peggy" Marshall is mentioned in her father's Revolutionary War pension application (Acc Orders 1851-54, p. 102). Elizabeth was born circa 1792. She was the daughter of Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. and Triffinoh (-----). She married Nathaniel Tyler on 24 June 1812 at Accomack Co, VA.² Elizabeth died after 1835.¹

     Upshur Bayly was the security on the 1812 Acc M.L.B. of Nathaniel Tyler and Peggy Marshall. Nathaniel was born circa 1792. He married Elizabeth 'Peggy' Marshall on 24 June 1812 at Accomack Co, VA.²

     Levinah was born circa 1798.² She was the daughter of Samuel (196) Marshall Jr. and Triffinoh (-----). She married Robert Marshall on 16 December 1815 at Accomack Co, VA. Levin Harman was the security on the M.L.B. of Robert Marshall and Levinah Marshall of Samuel..³ Levinah died before 1835. Leveniah (Marshall) Marshall must have died before 1835 as she was not listed in her father, Samuel's, Revolutionary War Pension application which was filed that year..

     Robert Marshall is assumed to be one of the males aged 16-26 in his father Sampson's household in 1800. Robert's name does not appear in an Acc Co Census listing. It seems his first marriage must have been circa 1795 and that he had a son and a daughter and a wife who were also in Sampson's household in 1800. Robert was born circa 1775 at Accomack Co, VA. He was the son of Sampson Marshall Sr. and Mary 'Polly' (-----). He married Levinah Marshall on 16 December 1815 at Accomack Co, VA. Levin Harman was the security on the M.L.B. of Robert Marshall and Levinah Marshall of Samuel..² Robert died before 1820.¹

     Manly Marshall's Acc Co birth record shows him as the son of Osco and Drucilla Marshall. Mr. Manley Marshall died at his home at Messongo on 19 Aug 1951, aged 63 years, and was buried at Downing's Cemetery. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 23 Aug 1951). Emanuel was born on 1 June 1878 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Oscar R. Marshall Sr. and Drucilla Tyler. He married Eleanor Susan 'Nora' Marshall on 20 August 1911 at Accomack Co, VA.² Emanuel was living in 1937 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.³ Emanuel died on 19 August 1951 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA, at age 73.⁴ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Eleanor was born on 20 February 1894 at Accomack Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her birth was in 1896..² She was the daughter of Charles William Marshall and Isabelle Susan Bell. She married Emanuel Manly Marshall on 20 August 1911 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ Eleanor died after 1951.³ Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Elinora was born in 1915 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Emanuel Manly Marshall and Eleanor Susan 'Nora' Marshall. She married Earl Woodrow Collins circa 1940.² Elinora was living in 1951 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.¹ Elinora died circa 1995.³

     Earl was born in 1912.² He was the son of Robert L. Collins Sr. and Jency L. (-----). He married Elinora Marshall circa 1940.³ Earl died in 1988.² His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     The proof that Oscar R. Marshall Sr. was the son of Mary Ann Marshall is based on the fact that his wife Priscilla was listed on his mother's (Mary Ann Marshall) death record as daughter-in-law. His brother Richard was in the household of Ann Marshall in the 1850 Census, and Oscar was listed in the household of Daniel Boston. Oscar R. Marshall, Sr. and C.W. Marshall and their wives are buried side by side at Knight's Cemetery about 1 mile below Messongo on the east side of Route 700. In the same graveyard are buried Alexander W. Marshall as well as Richard T. Marshall and his wife Malinda A. Marshall. Oscar's tombstone shows his death as 1909, although a church record indicates that he died 27 Sep 1908. Oscar was born in 1841 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of John Marshall and Mary Ann Marshall. Oscar was listed with another family in the cenus of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Oscar Marshall, age 9 in HH#982 headed by Daniel Boston, a 66 year old farmer with real estate valued at $600..³ He married Drucilla Tyler on 9 November 1864 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Oscar Marshall, a 23 year old oysterman, born and living in Messongo, the son of Persil Ann Marshall and she was shown as Priscialla Tyler, age 22 and single, also born in living in Messongo, the daughter of Molly Marshall. They were married by George H. Ewell at the residence of William Stant..⁴ Oscar was on the in 1898 roll of the at Pocomoke Meth Ch, Grotons, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Oscar died in 1909.² His body was interred at Knight's Cem, Messongo, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mary Ann Marshall, age 35, was head of a household in 1850, with 4 children. Another son, Oscar, was living with Daniel Boston in the general vicinity. In 1860, she was again shown as age 35 and was the head of a household with 4 sons and a daughter Olivia. Her daughter Sarah Jane was not listed with her. In 1870, at age 45, she had only a daughter Olivia and a son Thomas in her household. In 1880, at age 50, she was living with her son "B. Thomas", a 24 year old unmarried oysterman. According to her death record, she died of Rheumatism at age 60. This information was provided by her daughter-in-law, Priscilla Marshall, and states that Mary Ann's parents were John and Ada Marshall and that she was the consort of John Marshall. The death records of 2 of Mary Ann's sons also state that their father was John Marshall. However, no marriage record has been found for Mary Ann Marshall marrying a John Marshall circa 1840, nor has an unattached John Marshall at the right age been found in the records. Also note that the Census records did not show a John Marshall living with her in 1850, 1860 nor 1870. Undocumented data on Mary Ann Marshall's children was given to Mary Francis (Trader) Carey by family members, who include: Mrs. Addie Marshall (now deceased) and her daughter, Mildred Wessells of New Church, VA, on 8 Aug 1987; Mrs. Jane Mister Wright of New Church, VA, on 10 Aug 1987; Mrs. Novella (Marshall) Marshall now deceased of Mearsville, VA, on 9 Aug 1987; Mrs. Bessie (Hancock) Marshall of Hallwood, VA, on 27 Jul 1987; a letter from Mrs. Malinda Griffith Ennis to Mrs. Nettie Trader Simkins, dated 3 Mar 1976; numerous family incidents told to Mary Frances (Trader) Carey by Mrs. Nettie Trader Simkins, granddaughter of Sarah Jane (Marshall) Trader, who spent her last years with her son, Washington L. Trader in Oak Hall, VA, when she told Nettie something of her family; and finally a telephone conversation with Mrs. Ennis of Salisbury, MD, on 5 Aug 1992. Mary was born circa 1815 at Accomack Co, VA. The 1850 census puts her birth at 1815, but her 1881 death record puts it at 1821..^2,3 She was the daughter of John Marshall and Adah Marshall. She married John Marshall circa 1840.⁴ Mary was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Ann Marshall the head of HH#1112 (#1111 in the transcribed version), age 35. Listed with her were the following Marshalls: Richard, age 10; Jane, age 7; Elvira (Olivia?), age 5 and Samuel, age 1..³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁵ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Accomack Co, VA.⁶ Mary died on 24 July 1881 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary Ann Marshall, who died of rheumatism at the age of 60 years. She was the daughter of John and Ada Marshall, born in Acc Co, a housekeeper and the husband of John Marshall. Her stepdaughter (probably daughter-in-law) Priscilla Marshall gave the information..¹

     The existance of this John Marshall is based on the death record of Mary Ann Marshall (information by her daughter-in-law Priscilla) and the death certificates of her sons Richard T. Marshall and Samuel F. Marshall. Richard's death certificate also gives his mother Mary's maiden name as Marshall and indicates that both John and Mary Ann were born in Acc Co. However, all records found prior to Mary Ann Marshall's death indicates that she was unmarried. These include her being listed in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census without a husband and marriage records of several of her childern, none of which mentioned a father. John was born circa 1820 at Accomack Co, VA. He married Mary Ann Marshall circa 1840.¹

     She was listed as a Drucilla Tyler in both the 1850 and 1860 Census, d/o David and Margaret Tyler. However, her marriage record to Oscar Marshall in 1864 showed her as Priscilla, d/o Molly Marshall. She was listed as Priscilla on Oscar's mother's (Ann) death record as daughter-in-law. She is also listed as Priscilla in the 1870 and 1880 Census. She is shown as Drucilla T. Marshall on her tombstone and as Drucilla in her obituary. Drucilla was born in 1842 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of David Tyler and Margaret 'Peggy' Simpson. Drucilla was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Drusilla Tyler, age 8 in HH#1229 headed by David Tyler, a 48 year old oysterman..¹ Drucilla was listed with her parents in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She married Oscar R. Marshall Sr. on 9 November 1864 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Oscar Marshall, a 23 year old oysterman, born and living in Messongo, the son of Persil Ann Marshall and she was shown as Priscialla Tyler, age 22 and single, also born in living in Messongo, the daughter of Molly Marshall. Mrs. Drucilla Marshall, widow of the late Oscar Marshall, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John McCready, at Messongo on 11 Aug 1937, aged 101 years, survivors were listed. (Based on the early census records, she was probably about age 95.).⁴ Her body was interred at Knight's Cem, Messongo, Acc Co, VA.²

     David was born circa 1802 at Accomack Co, VA. The 1860 census puts his birth at 1800..² He was the son of Jabez Tyler Sr.. He married Margaret 'Peggy' Simpson on 6 August 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. Revell Simpson and Richard D. Bayly were the securities on the M.L.B. of David Tyler of Jabez and Margaret Simpson of Rev..³ David was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as David Tyler the head of HH#1229, age 48 and an oysterman. Listed with him were the following Tylers: Peggy, age 38; John, age 19 and an oysterman; Selby, age 15 and an oysterman; David, age 11; Drusilla, age 8; and James, age 6..² David was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.      Her common name was Peggy. Margaret was born circa 1812 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Revell Simpson and Rebecca Chesser. She married David Tyler on 6 August 1827 at Accomack Co, VA. Revell Simpson and Richard D. Bayly were the securities on the M.L.B. of David Tyler of Jabez and Margaret Simpson of Rev..¹ Margaret was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.
