Edmund was born circa 1650. He was the son of Thomas Custis. He married Tabitha Whittington circa 1680.2,3 Edmund received land as a gift in 1690 at Accomack Co, VA. In 1690 General John Custis made a deed of gift of the personalty at the Deep Creek Plantation to Edmund Custis, whom he had brought to Virginia in his minority and who was a son of his brother Thomas Custis, "formerly of Baltamore in the Kingdome of Ireland." The document also recited that Edmund had married a granddaughter of Custis' wife Tabitha, and apparently the young couple had set up housekeeping here. In 1693 John and Tabitha Custis united in a deed of gift to Edmund for the 1,750 acres "for and in consideration of the Love and affection wee have and beare to our well beloved Nephew and Grandson Edmund Custis of the County of Accomack in Virginia aforesaid, Gentleman, and Tabitha his now wife our Granddaughter.".1 Edmund was named in his uncle's will on 18 March 1691 at Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as my kinsman Edmond Custis, son of my brother Thomas Custis, and given 800 acres at Deep Creek in Accomack County in the will of John Custis, Esq., wife Tabitha. (NOTE: Edmond Custis had married John Custis's then wife Tabitha's granddaughter Tabitha Whittington.).4 He made a will on 12 August 1700 at Deep Creek, Acc Co, VA. To son Thomas (under 20). To daughter Tabitha Scarburgh Custis (under age 17) 850 acres given me by my honored Uncle Col. John Custis of Arlington in Northampton County, dec'd, at or near Deep Creek.
