Since Marvin was the youngest of eight children, he was actually younger than some of his nieces and nephews. He was always full of fun and on the go. He would fall asleep while driving his car. He had a big boat and loaded potatoes and tomatoes up the Pocomoke River and took them to markets in Baltimore and Washington. His two daughters, Thelma and Daphine, and Faye Lewis, a neighbor, were pals with Evelyn (Lewis) Powell. Once Evelyn was invited to go to Washington with him when he carried a boat load of potatoes. It rained most of the time, but he called a taxi and took them to the Smithsonian Museums. They were dressed in their Sunday best. The day they left was a beautiful day and he asked a man he knew to take them for a ride. They rode around the Capital and the White House. He made three girls very happy. One time when he was away, Daphine got their mother's attention and Thelma got the car keys. Since the garage was on the Drewer new road, they pushed the car out and went for a ride. One time Marvin came home and found his car was missing. He reported it stolen and the police were there when his daughters arrived in his car. He didn't stay mad long. Each year before Easter he would buy his sister Mary's daughters their Easter outfits, selected them himself. After his days of operating the freight boat were over, he had trucks to haul the produce. He had friends from the Eastern Shore to points north where he sold produce. Marvin was born on 13 February 1889 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.1 He was the son of John Wesley Drewer and Eliza Jane Miles. Marvin was on the in 1900 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.3 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.4 He married Beulah D. According to church records, Ernest Stant was on the Sanford roll in 1908 and 1917, was baptised in Dec 1911 and was removed in the spring of 1920. After leaving Sanford he resided in Chester, PA, during World War I, working in an ammunition factory. He moved to Kingston, MD, where he as a farmer, truckdriver, and produce buyer. His son Alvin became his partner and drove the trucks on long hauls across the country. They would also go to Pennsylvania and buy produce in the summer for several weeks at a time. In the early 1950's, Alvin and his family built a house in Crisfield and Ernest and Annie moved there too. They continued trucking together with Alvin doing most of the hauling. At the same time Alvin and Ernest owned oyster grounds in the Pocomoke Sound. They sold this to John Handy Jr., but they harvested the oysters and were paid by Handy's. Alvin assumed most of this work since he was younger. They also built a large chicken house on Alvin's property and they jointly raised chickens. They also grew strawberries and had enough fields to hirre pickers. It was during strawberry season, on 23 May 1953, that Ernest died. He and Annie had gone home for lunch and Ernest was getting ready to rest when he had a major stroke. Alvin had just returned from hauling when he got a call from the hospital in late afternoon saying that Ernest had died. His granddaughter, Susan, remembers sitting in his lap and combing his hair. He was never angry nor raised his voice around her. He was good natured and always willing to help someone (as remembered by his granddaughter Susan S. Phoebus). He was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Methodist Church in Crisfield. Ernest was born on 20 September 1892 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.1 He was the son of Wilbur Z. Stant and Amanda L. Marshall. She grew up in the Rehobeth area of Somerset Co, MD. She won a beauty contest when she was 16 years old and was always proud of this. She lived in Sanford, VA, after she married Ernest Stant. They moved to Pennsylvania for a short time during World War I, were Ernest worked in an ammunition factory. They were close friends with the owners of the factory. They moved to Kingston, MD, and spent most of their married life there. Ernest was a farmer and had trucks to haul produce. His son Alvin drove one of these trucks when he was 16 years old. The belived it was a sin to cut your hair or to work on Sunday. They moved to Crisfield in the early 1950's and lived on Standard Ave. After Ernest's death in 1953, Annie lived in a house on Somerset Ave for 6 months, then moved to Mariners Road and lived there until May 1985 when she moved in with her son Alvin, where she lived until her death. After Ernest's death she dated Eddie Brittingham for 10-15 years until his death. She was very independant and self-sufficient. She had a garden until she died and canned all of her food. She liked to sew and was always making quilts and rugs. She even made her clothes. When she was younger she made her dresses out of feed bags. She had blue eyes and curly dark hair (from Susan S. Phoebus). According to church records, Annie Florence (Bridell) Stant was on the Sanford roll in 1908 and 1917, her vows and baptism was 23 May 1909, her spouse was Earnest Stant, and she was withdrawn in the spring of 1920. The only other Bridelle on the roll was Orison, who was on the Pocomoke roll in 1900, 1905, 1908 and 1917 and was removed on 7 Feb 1921. One of her favorite stories involved her marriage to Ernest G. Stant. He married him when she was only 16 years old, but it wasn't easy. Ernest's father, known as "Pop Will," did not want Ernest to marry her. The reasons were never quite clear. Everything about Annie indicated that she should have been approved. She had won a beauty contest, not surprising with her beautiful blue eyes and dark hair. She was the daughter of a well-liked couple, Grison and Laura Briddell. The Briddell family was "God fearing" and honest. Annie did indicate that Pop Will was afraid she and Ernest may ultimatley divorce because Annie's cousin, Lukie, had divorced. Pop Will was firm and emphatic about his wishes. It seems Ernest had saved $300 for his marriage. Not only did Pop Will hide his money, but he bought Ernest a truck and suggested that he go to Atlanta, GA, to live! Ernest told his friends in Sanford what Pop Will had done. In an effort to help Ernest, his friends pitched in and loaned him $300. Shortly thereafter, Annie and her Dad took the boat and went to Crisfield so she could buy her wedding dress. Annie was so pleased with her dress, especially the beautiful blue sash. Annie and Ernest were married in Pocomoke, MD. When they returned to Sanford, Pop Will grudgingly returned Ernest's $300 and Ernest repaid his loyal friends. Annie thought it was worth it, as Ernest was the best catch in Sanford. They were happily married for 42 years, until his death in 1953 (As told by their granddaughter, Susan S. Phoebus). Annie was born on 25 January 1895 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.1 She was the daughter of Luther Orison Briddell and Laura Frances Bunting. Annie was on the in 1908 roll of the at Meth Ch, Sanford, Acc Co, VA.2 She married Ernest Gordon Stant on 9 August 1911 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.3 Annie died on 18 June 1986 at Crisfield, Som Co, MD, at age 91.1

Hillis Larry Bonawell, 16-year old Atlantic High School football star and life-long resident of Saxis, died at 9:02 o'clock Monday night in DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, of brain injuries sustained in a football game on the preceding Friday night. Collapsing on the field, after being hurt, the youth was first taken to Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, but was transferred the following the day to DePaul. He died without regaining consciousness. The 140 pound junior playing left halfback for his team against Central High, was hurt in the final quarter of the game, when he reportedly took a handoff from the quarterback and attempted to make a point after touchdown by rushing. After being tackled by several Central players, he regained his feet and started to walk back up the field preparatory to taking position for the kickoff, when he collapsed on the field. An all-around athlete, Larry Bonawell was playing his third year of football for Atlantic. He had also starred in track, having qualified last year for the 100 and 220-yard dashes at the Virginia State track meet (an obituary). He died on 16 Oct 1952 in DePaul Hospital from injuries received in a football game (Pen. Ent., 23 Oct 1952). According to Alvin Stant, one of Lit's great nephews, one of Lit's favorite stories was how he fooled the Federal Government. It seems that Lit was at the General Store in Sanford one day bragging about all of the money he had in his safe. Someone who was at the store that day and who didn't like Lit's bragging attitude reported him to the Internal Revenue Service. A friend of Lit's warned him that the IRS just may pay him a visit. So Lit removed most of the money from the safe and buried it in his yard. He did leave a small amount of money in the safe. Sure enough, a representative from the IRS paid him a visit and Lit told him he could gladly look in the safe because he was just about as poor as a man could be. The tax man looked in the safe and saw that Lit did not have a stash of $50,000 as rumored. Lit used this opportunity to complain that all of his friends received Social Security, but he had not received one dime, even after filing the papers. It seems that the tax man felt sorry for Lit's economic woes so he sat down at the kitchen table to gather information for Lit's Social Security. A short time later, Lit received a check for $4,000 from Social Security for back payments. He added this to his stockpile of cash and headed back to the store with a new story to tell. His common name was Lit. Littleton Laury 'Lit' Stant was born illegitimate. Littleton was born on 20 June 1874 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.2 He was the son of William H. 'Bill' Silverthorn and Emily Ann Stant. Littleton was listed with his parents in the census of in 1880 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as son Littleton Silverthorn, age 6 in HH#261 headed by Wm. Silverthorn, a 32 year old oysterman..3 He married Josie Anna Drummond on 10 December 1899 at Somerset Co, MD.4 Littleton was living in 1958 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.2 Littleton died on 29 April 1967 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 92. According to Lit Stant's death certificate, his mother was Emily Stant and his father was unknown. His daughter Carrie Lee (Stant) Hall provided the information. According to other sources, both in the Stant family and outside, William "Bill" Silverthorn was the father of all of Emily Stant's children..2 His body was interred at Drummond Cem, Flag Pond Rd, Sanford, Acc Co, VA.5 Littleton's will was probated in 1967 at Accomack Co, VA.6

According to Peggy Ann (Bundick) Ross and Barbara Mae (Witham) Martin, there was a small girl child, that got too near the fireplace and caught fire and died. Since the 1870 Census shows an unnamed infant, 4 months old, born in May and since the next child, Dollie was born in Feb 1872, it is assumed that the unnamed infant was the child that died in the fire. Emily Stant had a miniture hymnal which contained Lenora's birth date and there was also a framed 5x7 piece of paper that belonged to Emily's daughter Dollie, which had Lenora's death as 12 Jan 1876, age 6 years.
