     In his will, written 7 Aug 1703, James Ewell named a wife Anne; sons Mark, Solomon, Charles and George Ewell; daughters Patience and Ann Ewell and Comfort Tatham; granddaughters Jane and Tabyther Tatham. He left his wife Anne all his land and plantation. Son Mark was the executor. Witnesses were John Drummond, Robert Norton, William Willet and Sarah Ryley (Acc Co Wills &c., 1692-1715 vol. xi, p. 347). There is a possible error in the dates, as Nottingham shows the date written, 7 Aug 1703, which is before the date probated, 13 Jul 1703. Based on the probate date of the wills recorded just before and after this one (Jun 1704 and Aug 1704), it must have been probated 13 Jul 1704. James was born circa 1640. He was the son of Edward Ewell and Ann Eden. He married Anne (-----) circa 1660.2 James died in 1703.3 James's will was probated on 13 July 1704 at Accomack Co, VA.3

A wife was mentioned, but not by name. To son James the plantation where I now live and marsh thereto belonging containing 400 acres. To son Mark 400 acres adjacent to the land given James. To son George Hope Ewell the remainder of the land where I now live. To sons Mark and George Hope Ewell "Shoaris" Island, containing 200 acres. The balance of my estate to my wife during her widowhood and at her marriage to be divided between my wife and children. The wife, not named, was the executrix. Witnessess were R. Drummond, Solomon Ewell and Elizabeth Lewis (Acc Co Wills, Deeds &c. 1715-29, vol. ii, p. 134). Mark was born circa 1665. He was the son of James Ewell and Anne (-----). Mark was living in 1703.1 He married Comfort Hope circa 1710.2 Mark's will was probated on 6 June 1727 at Accomack Co, VA.3 Mark died in 1727.3

     In his will, written 24 Apr 1728, George Ewell named a brother Solomon; sisters Ann Glading and Comfort Tatham; cousins Tabitha Gray, Comfort Young, Sarah Tatham, Jane Barincastle, Naomi Ewell and George Glading; sister-in-law Comfort Ewell (meaning the widow Ewell); kinsman Thomas A'Rew; and Thomas Tatham, William Willson, Matilda Lewis, Ann Lewis (the first born of Matilda Lewis) and Margaret Peal, whose relationship were not mentioned. He specified that 1/2 his plantation on Hunting Creek where I now live to sister Ann Galding for life and the use of the other 1/2 to my cousin Tabitha Gray for life and then the whole to Thomas Tatham whom I now keep at school to William Willson.
