She was shown as Susan Dix, age 38 in HH#667 headed by William H. Dix, a 43 year old farmer..5 Susan was named in her father's will on 23 May 1857 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as a daughter Susan Dix, wife of William H. Dix, in the will of Marjor Rayfield Sr..2 Susan was listed with her husband in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Major Rayfield the head of HH#349, age 73 with real estate valued at $3,000. Listed with him were Nancy Rayfield, age 74; Sarah A. Rayfield, age 30; and Edmund Boothe, age 24 and idiotic..3 Major reported a death on 20 May 1853 at Hunting Creek, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Major Rayfield Jr. reported the death of his wife Nancy Rayfield, who died of rheumatism at that age of 78 years..4 He made a will on 23 May 1857 at Accomack Co, VA. To son Thomas J. Rayfield the land where I now reside commencing on Hunting Creek at the line between my land & the land of Thomas Russell of M. & ... & on the line between my land & that belonging to the heirs of James Lewis dec'd & thence to Hunting Creek & he to pay my estate $800 & to him my slaves for the terms mentioned: Simon Sr., 7 years after my death; Violet, 4 years; Abraham, Isaac, Jacob & Simon Jr. until they shall arrive at age 30, at which time they are to be free, provided they wish to be free & also all the increase of Violet born during her term of service until they reach age 30 & so with the increase of such increase born as aforesaid. My true intent & meaning is that all the increase of the several descendants of the slave Violet through successive generations born before the actual freedom of their respective ancestors shall have accrued according to the provisions hereinbefore contained, shall be the property of my said son Thomas J., until they severally attain age 30 & that then they shall be free, if they desire such freedom. To my grandchildren George W. Powell, John T. Powell, Henry Powell, William Powell, Nancy Parks, the wife of Parker W. Parks, Mary Adams, the wife of James Adams & Elizabeth Lilliston, the wife of Henry P. Lilliston, children of my dec'd daughter Mary Powell, formerly the wife of Seth Powell dec'd, my female slave Louisa for the term of 10 years after my death & my slave Sarah Jr. for the term of 15 years & then they to be free, provided they wish to be free, along with their increase subject to the same terms as for my slave Violet. To son Major Rayfield my Negro man Southey for the term of 10 years & my girl Leah for the term of 15 years along with her increase subject to the same terms as for my slave Violet. To daughter Susan Dix, the wife of William H. Dix, my Negro woman Sarah Sr. for 8 years, her child Henry until he is age 30 & my Negro man Stephen for 2 years after my death & the increase of Sarah Sr. subject to the same terms as for my slave Violet. To son Peter D. Rayfield $500 & my large canoe. My Negro man George to be free after my death & my son Thomas J. Rayfield to see that he has sufficient support in his old age & to treat him with kindness. To Sarah Ann Taylor $100 & ... & my son Thomas J. Rayfield to see that she does not suffer from want & that he keep her out of the Poor House during her life time. To each of the children of my son William P. Rayfield, named Laura & Henry, $100.
