Kate R. Scarborough married Tiberius J. Killman on 11 Feb 1885 (Pen. Ent., 4 Apr 1885). She was born in the "Down Neck" area of Wachapreague. She was of medium stature and had black hair and blue eyes. She wore glasses. She had a very easy going nature. She was never heard raising her voice in anger. She was an excellent cook and often fed as many as 20 people on a Sunday at dinner time after attending Hollies Church in the morning. She used to put leftover griddle cakes and country sausage form breakfast on the table for a mid morning snack for her grandchildren, after they had filled the wood box. She wrapped the pancakes around the sausage like a sandwich. Cold biscuits that were leftover from lunch were split, buttered, and a little bit of granulated sugar sprinkled over them, were a treat about 4 p.m. She allowed a feather bed mattress to remain on the 3/4 bed in the little room over the downstairs hall, so the grandchildren could sleep on it all summer long. First child to get night clothes on got to jump and flop in the middle of the featherbed. It was great fun. Often 3 children were in it at one time. She also allowed the grandchildren to help churn the butter in a stone crock with a paddle, help her sweep the bare back yard with a switch broom, feed the chickens and pick up eggs even in the barn loft from the stalin nests. She was living with her daughter, Violet, in Keller when she died. Mrs. Kate Scarborough Killmon, widow of the late T.J. Killmon, died on 5 Jul 1943, at home in Keller, age 76 years. Services were at Hollies Baptist Church was she was a member, on 7 Jul 1943, by the Revs. Nicoll and Robertson, with interment in the Hollies Cemetery. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 9 Jul 1943). Katherine was born on 24 March 1867 at Wachapreague, Acc Co, VA.1 She was the daughter of Mitchell Thorogood Scarburgh III and Mary Hannah Young. She married Tiberius Jones 'Bee' Killmon on 11 February 1885.2 Katherine died on 5 July 1943 at Keller, Acc Co, VA, at age 76.1 Her body was interred at Hollies Ch Cem, Keller, Acc Co, VA.3
