     Evelyn was born circa 1895. She was the daughter of Leroy Madison Lewis and Maggie May French. She married John Thomas Bagley circa 1920.² Evelyn died before 1940.¹

     Mr. Henry Leroy Lewis died in Salt Lake City Veteran's Hospital on 30 Jan 1956. He was born in Norfolk, VA, 31 Jan 1889(?), the son of Maggie French and Leroy M. Lewis. His father was raised at Saxis. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 2 Feb 1956). Leroy M. Lewis' first wife died in 1893 and he married Maggie French in 1894. If Henry's birth date of 1889 is correct, he could have the son of Leroy by his first wife, Amanda S. Marshall, and Maggie would have been his step mother. Henry was born on 31 January 1889 at Norfolk, VA.¹ He was the son of Leroy Madison Lewis and Maggie May French. Henry was living in 1940 at Chesapeake Beach, VA.² Henry died on 30 January 1956 at Salt Lake City, UT, at age 66.¹

     Ethel was born in June 1893 at Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Revel J. Lewis and Edith M. Nelson. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.^2,3 She was christened in August 1904 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Mr. Sankey Marshall of Saxis died on 26 Aug 1942, aged 58 years, at the Marine Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Services were conducted on 30 Aug at the Saxis Methodist Church by Rev. Weaver and Forrest with interment in the Evans Cemetery, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 4 Sep 1942). Conflicting evidence states that Rachel was born in January 1855 at Virginia.² Rachel was born on 25 September 1864 at Maryland.¹ She was the daughter of John T. Popham and Priscilla (-----). Her actual name is believed to have been "Maudenia" and her nickname was "Denia"..⁴

     His common name was Frank. Perry was born in February 1873 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Alfred F. Wessells and Kissiah B. 'Kessy' Phillips. He married Maudenia M. 'Denia' Lewis on 27 December 1893 at Somerset Co, MD.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Perry was living in 1937.¹ Perry died on 13 May 1948 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 75. Perry Frank Wessells died at the home of Mrs. Vonnie Martin on Saxis, aged 73 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 21 May 1948)..⁵

     Miss Bessie Wessells and Mr. Laurel Martin were married Wednesday evening, 5 Nov 1919 (Acc News, 7 Nov 1919). Mrs. Bessie M. (Wessells) Martin, wife of Laurel Martin, aged 36, died at Saxis on 17 Jul 1939 and was buried in the Lewis Cem. She was survived by: her husband; 1 daughter, Mary C. Martin; 1 son, Upshur Martin; her father, Mr. P. Frank Wessells; 1 brother, Mr. Fitzgugh Wessells (Pen. Ent., 21 Jul 1939). Elizabeth was born circa 1902 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Perry Franklin 'Frank' Wessells and Maudenia M. 'Denia' Lewis.      Mr. Lloyd P. Hill, husband of Evelyn Lewis Hill and the son of the late John P. and Mary Sterling Hill, died on 8 Jul 1944 at Norfolk Hospital. He had been a resident of Norfolk for 38 years. Services were at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Monday, 10 Jul, by Rev C.E. Green, Pastor of the Memorial Methodist Church, Berkley, with interment in the Riverside Memorial Park. Mary was born in December 1883 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of George W. Taylor and Julia Anne Marshall.      Zachariah Marshall was listed as a farmer in 1850, age 50, and as an oysterman in 1860, age 65, and as an oysterman in 1870, age 73. He apparently lived his entire life on Saxis, where he and his wife left descendants. He jointly purchased 50 acres of land on Saxis Island in 1826 with his brother Aaron Marhsall. The 1850 census puts his birth at 1800 and the 1860 census puts it at 1795..² He was the son of James Marshall and Patience (-----). He married Zipporah 'Zippie' Evans on 20 August 1828 at Worcester Co, MD.³ Zachariah was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Zachariah Marshall the head of HH#796, a 50 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. Listed with him were the following Marshalls: Zipporah, age 35; George, a 19 year old laborer; Emeline, age 16; Louisa, age 14; Washington, age 12; Catharine, age 7; Wesley, age 4; Nelly A., age 3/12; and Lewis F., age 2.      Ziffie (Evans) Marshall, aged 65, was living with her youngest son, William F. Marshall, and his family in 1880. "Aunt Zippie Marshall, an elderly lady of Saxes Island, has recently been visiting her friends on the mainland. She was looking remarkably well, and was as cheerful and talkative as a young girl" (Pen. Ent., 4 Oct 1884). Her death record showed her as "Trephania Marshall" age 80, reported by an unnamed son and did not give the name of her husband. There seems little doubt but that this was Zipporah, who named a daughter Nellie after her mother. Zipporah was born in 1815 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of George Evans and Nellie E. Tyler. She married Zachariah 'Zac' Marshall on 20 August 1828 at Worcester Co, MD.³ Zipporah was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Zipporah Marshall, age 35 in HH#796 headed by Zachariah Marshall, a 50 year old farmer. This was on Saxis Island..⁴ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.⁵ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶ Zipporah died on 18 July 1891.¹

     On 29 Sep 1857, George Davey Marshall bought 1/2 acre for $130 on Saxes Island from James Marshall and his wife Olivia. It was bounded by James Marshall and the Pocomoke Sound (Acc Deeds No. 40, 1855-1858, p. 596). George D. Marshall, aged 26, was head of a Saxis Island household in 1860. His wife Jane was 21 and they had two children. On 10 Jul 1860 George D. Marshall sold 1 acre on Saxes Island to James H. Fletcher. The land was adjoining James Marshall and others. George D. Marshall owed Parker Miles $20, Revil J. Lewis $5, Washington Marshall $50, W.J. Marshall $40, Stephen Corbin $20, and Ralph Corbin $6 (Acc Deeds No. 42, 1860-62, p. 197). This family moved to Gloucester Co, VA, by 1870. In 1880, George David Marshall, age 43 and a sailor, was the head of household #151 in Abington Dist, Gloucester Co, VA. Living with him were his wife, Mary Jane, age 38, 3 sons and 7 daughters. George was born circa 1836 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Washington Marshall and Susanna 'Sukie' Sparrow.
