Placing him as the son of this Joshua William Thornton is somewhat tentative. He was definitely a son of a William, but there were several Williams that were living at the time of his birth. The other Williams were eliminated as having other known children, including sons named William who have also been traced and have been identified as living in either Guilford or on Chincoteague Island. This places him in the seaside or Assawoman Creek branch of the Thornton family, which fits with him living on the seaside and being buried at Modest Town. William was born circa 1813 at Accomack Co, VA. His tombstone shows he was born 3 Jan 1806. However, the 1850 census puts his birth at 1813, the 1860 census puts it at 1811, the 1870 census puts it at 1807, the 1880 census puts it at 1807, his death in 1886 as reported by wife Sally puts it at 1806, and his death reported in 1887 by his son Wm. T., puts it at 1817..2 He was the son of Joshua William Thornton (III). William chose a guardian on on 31 December 1832 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Wm. Thornton, orphan of Wm. Thornton, chose Wm. Nock of Z. as his guardian. According to Mary Frances Carey's research on the Nock family, Wm. Nock of Z., inherited 200 acres of land from his father in 1809 and it was to the east of Mappsville and south of the market road, the present day Mappsville Road. This is not too far from Modest Town, where Wm. T. Thornton is buried..3 He married Eliza 'Elzay or Alsey' Belote on 31 December 1832 at Accomack Co, VA. According to Turman's marriage book William Nock & Valentine Trader were the securities on the M.L.B. of William Thornton, ward of William Nock, and Elzay Belote, ward of William Nock. Mary Frances Carey reports they were married by David Watts. According to Mary Frances Carey, Acc Co Marriage Register #1, page 50, shows him as William of Wm..4 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1840 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Thornton, page 34, age 20-30. Listed with him were 1 male, age 0-5 (son William was age 4); 1 male, age 5-10 (son James was age 6); and 1 female, age 20-30. (NOTE: Having no daughters born by 1840 also agrees with other information.).5 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William L. Thornton the head of HH#319, a 37 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Thorntons: Elisie Thornton, age 25 (probably age 35); James W., a 16 year old laborer; William T., age 12; Elizabeth A., age 9; and Mary A.W., age 3..6 He married Sarah 'Sally' Killmon on 25 April 1853 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as William Thornton, widower, and she was shown as Sally Killman of John..4 William reported a death on 20 September 1854 at Seaside, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Wm. T. Thornton reported the death of his daughter Mary A. Thornton, who died of unknown causes at the age of 7 years old. She was born and died on the Seaside..1 William reported a death on 30 September 1854 at Seaside, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Wm. T. Thornton reported the death of his son Geo. A. Thornton, who died of unknown causes at the age of 9 months. He was born and died on the Seaside..1 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William T. Thornton the head of HH#317, a 49 year old farmer with presonal property valued at $25. Listed with him were the following Thorntons: Sally, age 23; Elizabeth A., age 17; Margaret A., age 4; and Elitia R.B.J., age 5/12..7 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1870 at Metompkin District, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Thornton the head of HH#MT103, a 63 year old farm laborer with real estate valued at $200 and personal property valued at $100. Listed with him were the following Thorntons: Sally, a 38 year old house keeper; Anna, age 13 and attending school; Sarah, age 11 and attending school; and John, age 6. Also listed was Eliza Lewis, age 45 and blind..8 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1880 at Metompkin Dist, North, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Wm. Thornton a 73 year farmer and head of household. Listed with him were the following Thorntons: Sallie, a 42 year old wife; John Henry, a 16 year old son and farm worker; Archie B., a 7 year old son; and Bell, a 21 year old daugher and at home..9 William died on 6 August 1886 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. Evidently his death was reported twice. He was first shown as William T. Thornton, who died 6 Aug 1886 of a tumor at the age of 80 years. He was the son of Jas. & Sally Thornton, born in Acc Co, a farmer and the husband of Sally Thornton, who gave the information. The second record shows him Wm. Thorton of Wm., who died in 1887 in Accomack Parish, at the age of 70 years. He was the son of Wm. Thornton, born in Acc Co, and a farmer. His son Wm. T. Thornton gave the information..2,1 His body was interred at Modest Town Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA. His tombstone shows him as William T. Thornton, 3 Jan 1806 - 6 Aug 1886..2

Alfred J. Killman, age 2, was in the 1850 Acc Parish HH#713 of Samuel (of J.) Killman and his wife Jane. Samuel and Jane were not listed in the 1860 Acc Co census, but Alfred J. Kilman, age 12, was in the 1860 Acc Parish HH#600 of John Kilman and his wife Virginia. Alfred J. Kilmon, age 21 and a mariner, is listed as the son of John and Virginia Killman on his 1870 Acc Co marriage record. In later census, Alfred lists himself as a grocer. Alfred's parents, Samuel and Jane, may have died in the small pox epidemic of the 1850's and Alfred went to live with his uncle, John Killmon and wife Virginia. This would explain why Alfred listed his parents on his marriage record as John and Virginia Killmon. Alfred was born circa 1848 at Accomack Co, VA.1 He was the son of Samuel (of J.) Killmon and Jane (-----). Alfred was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Alfred J. Killman, age 2 in HH#713 headed by Sam. Kilmon, a 21 year old mariner, the son of John & Virginia Kilmon and she was shown as Margaret S. Justice, the daughter of Revel & Nancy Justice. They were married by John E.T. Ewell..4 Alfred was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1870 at Metompkin District, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Alfred Killman, the head of HH#MT545, a 25 year old oysterman. Listed with him was Margaret Killman, a 21 year old house keeper..5

The assumption that this Ezekiel Kilmon (Jr) is the son of Ezekiel Kilmon and Polly Parks is based on these (weak) facts: 1) Exekiel (Sr) had a son, aged 0-10 in 1820; 2) his surviving wife Polly had only one son living with her in 1830, aged 15-20; 3) Ezekiel (Jr) first appears as a head of household in 1840, aged 20-30; and 4) he could have been named after his father. In his will written 23 Nov 1900 he named a wife Katharine L. Killmon and at her death to the heirs of George B. Killmon (relationship not noted). The sale of his personal property was to go to John W. Killman (relationship not noted) and Katharine S. Hart (relationship not noted) and if they die before possion, to the youngest son of George B. Killmon. Henry R. Boggs, a friend, was named executor. Witnesses were William H. Drummond, W. Spencer Finney and Edwin M. Boggs (Acc Co Wills 1901-1904, p. 15).
