     Clarence was born in 1942.² He was the son of Claude Swanson Linton and Nona Ellis. Clarence died on 23 June 1998.³

     She was christened in 1907, but was not shown in the 1910 Census [?]. Susie was born circa 1907 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. She was the daughter of James M. 'Jim' Ellis and Matilda Jane 'Till' Dennis. She was christened on 29 September 1907 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Susie died before 1910.²

     Goldie was born circa 1903 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of John A. Ellis Sr. and Margaret A. 'Mag' Crockett. She was christened in August 1905 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She married Purnell Gillespie circa 1922.⁴ Her body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     He was listed as Avery in the 1850, 1860 and 1880 Census. However, he was listed as Aaron in the 1870 Census [?]. What is believed to be the record of his first marriage to Eliza A. Marshall, daughter of Aaron Marshall, is on p. 46 of Somerset County Marriage Records (1796-1871), transcribed. The husband's first name is dashed implying the compilier could not read the name. This is quite likely, considering his name was Avara. The wife is listed as Eliza Marshall. The date fits with the facts that neither Eliza nor Avery were married in the 1850 Census (they were both living with Aaron Marshall) and their first child, James M. Ellis, was born circa 1852. In a deed dated 7 May 1853, Avery Ellis and his wife Elizer, sold 1.5 acres for $185 to Thomas Marshall, son of Robert, all of Saxes Island, bounded on the North by Stephen Linton, on the East by Edward Pecor, on the South by Absalom Lewis, and on the West by Henry C. Linton (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 11). In a deed dated 5 Nov 1853, Avery Ellis paid Thomas E. Marshall $60 for 2 acres of land on Saxes Island, bounded on the North by William Linton, on the East by Sanford Charity, on the South and West by Thos. E. Marshall (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 163). In a deed dated 3 May 1861, Avery Ellis purchased from James H. Fletcher and Corbin D. Fletcher 1 & 1/2 acres bounded on the north and west by Pocomoke Sound; east, James Marshall; south, Thomas Marshall; for $125. There was personal property put up as security and payments later (Acc Deeds No. 42, 1860-1862, p. 529). Mr. Avery Ellis died on Sykes Island, on 14 Oct 1895 of kidney troubles, aged 70 years (Pen. Ellis, a 48 year old widowed sailor, born & living in Acc Co and she was shown as Sophia Jones, a 48 year old widow, born & living in Acc Co, the daughter of John & Jemima Parrymore. They were married by J.W. Easley..⁵ Avera died on 14 October 1895 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Avery Ellis, who died on 10 Oct 1895 in the First District of dropsy at the age of 70 years. He was born in MD, an oysterman and widowed. His son John A. Ellis gave the information. The newspaper shows 14 Oct 1895..^7,8

     Eliza A. Marshall must have been the daughter of Aaron Marshall, since her husband, Avery Ellis, was living with Aaron Marshall in the 1850 Census and Avery Ellis, 30, and wife Eliza, 22 (27?), were living among Saxis Island residents in 1860. Their eldest child was 8, indicating they had married c. 1851. She must have died between the 1860 and 1870 Census. Eliza was born circa 1833 at Accomack Co, VA. The 1850 census puts her birth at 1833 and the 1860 census puts it at 1838..¹ She was the daughter of Aaron Marshall Sr. and Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher. Eliza was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Eliza Marshall, age 17 in HH#802 headed by Aaron Marshall, a 58 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. This was on Saxis Island..² She married Avera J. Ethel was born on 20 March 1907 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her birth as 1908..² She was the daughter of John Webster 'Johnie' Ellis Jr. and Lucy M. Linton.      Cause of death was spinal mengitis. Romie was born on 29 August 1911 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Bertie R. Ellis and Rhonia May Evans.      Loretta Furniss Evans died at her home in Hendersonville, NC, on 26 May 1933, aged 32 years, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 3 Jun 1933). Loretta was born on 28 August 1901 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Charles Solomon Furniss Sr. and Tryphenia Ann 'Triffy' Linton.      Mr. Maywood Furniss, of Saxis, and Miss Marian Forest, of Crisfield, MD, were married Sunday, 30 Dec 1928, at Crisfield (Pen. Ent., 5 Jan 1929). Maywood was born in 1901 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Edward Lee Furniss and Cora E. Bonnewell.      According to Annie Laura Byrd, Mariam Forest was born in Hagerstown, MD. Mrs. Marian Forrest Furniss, widow of Maywood Furniss, of Saxis, died at the Medical College of Virginia on 13 May 1961. She was the daughter of Leroy and Martha Forrest of Frederick Co, MD. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 18 May 1961). Mariam was born in 1905 at Hagerstown, Washington Co, MD.² She was the daughter of Leroy Forrest and Martha (-----). She married Maywood Lee Furniss on 30 December 1928 at Crisfield, Som Co, MD.³ Mariam died on 13 May 1961 at Richmond, VA.¹ Her body was interred at Bapt Ch Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mr. C.S. Furniss of Saxis is holding his grandsons in a picture in the newspaper on 24 Sep 1943. They were Burton Edward Furniss Jr. and William David Tull sons of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Furniss Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tull Jr. (Pen. Ent., 24 Sep 1943). His 73rd birthday was celebrated in Feb 1937 (Pen. Ent., 13 Feb 1937) and his 74 birthday was celebrated on Friday 4 Feb 1938 (Pen. Ent., 11 Feb 1938). Mr. Charles S. Furniss, age 83, died at Saxis 7 Feb 1947. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 14 Feb 1947). Charles was employed at as a Merchant. Charles was born on 4 February 1864 at Somerset Co, MD.² He was the son of Isaac James Furniss and Mary W. Powell. He married Tryphenia Ann 'Triffy' Linton on 22 April 1891 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Charles was living after 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ He married Lola B.      Isaac James Furniss farmed in Brinkleys District (house 961 in 1860), was a waterman in Pocomoke City (house 83 in 1870), kept a saloon in Pocomoke (house 423 in 1880), and was a merchant in Saxis (house 447 in 1900). Isaac was born on 1 March 1836 at Somerset Co, MD.² He was the son of William Furniss and Leah Hall Harris. He married Mary W. Powell on 10 June 1856 at Somerset Co, MD.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Isaac died on 5 November 1909 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 73.² His body was interred at Bapt Ch Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     According to the 1900 Census, Mary gave birth to 8 children and all 8 were living at that time. Mary was born on 12 July 1836 at Somerset Co, MD.² She was the daughter of Samuel G. Powell and Amelia Jane Adams. She married Isaac James Furniss on 10 June 1856 at Somerset Co, MD.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Mary died on 13 April 1909 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 72.² Her body was interred at Bapt Ch Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² Mary was named in a deed in on 8 March 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Sidney O. Furniss and Mary A. Furniss bought a parcel of land on Saxis from Cecie C. Lewis, et als, on 26 Jul 1934 (Acc Deeds 150, p. 186). On 15 Aug 1969, Harry E. Tull Jr. and Charles E. Tull bought this same parcel, bounded on the south by John Marshall and William f. Marshall (105 yards), on the west and north by Samuel Ewell (60 yards) and on the east by the county road (25 yards), for $200 from the heirs of Mary A. Furniss (d. 6 Jun 1937) and Sidney O. Furniss (d. 9 Feb 1943). The heirs were listed as: Mary Elizabeth Schumann, daughter; Cecil Evelyn Furniss, daughter; Phyllis A. Derby, daughter; Wildon Sidney Furniss, son; and the heirs of James Russell Furniss (deceased son) and wife Emma (deceased) listed as Barbara F. Tilghman, daughter; and Mary A. Master, daughter (Acc Deeds 284, p. 481). Mr. Sidney O. Furniss died on 9 Feb 1943. Services were conducted at the Holloway Funeral Parlor, Salisbury, MD, on 11 Feb by Rev. J.N. Stewart, with interment in Saxis. He was aged 72, survivors were listed (E.S. News, 19 Feb 1943). Sidney was employed at as a Merchant. Sidney was born on 16 July 1870 at Worcester Co, MD.² He was the son of Isaac James Furniss and Mary W. Powell. He married Mary A. Justice on 12 February 1893 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Sidney was named in a deed in on 24 March 1913 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Sidney died on 9 February 1943 at age 72.² His body was interred at Justice Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

He married Isabelle Linton on 28 January 1883 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Melissa F. Crockett on 22 March 1893 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Isaac was living after 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Isaac was named in a deed in on 8 March 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ He married Addie E.      George was born circa 1855 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of James W. Chance and Mary Ann Haley. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA.² He married Catherine A. 'Kitty' Mears on 1 January 1879 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as George Chance, a 23 year old farmer, the son of Jas. & Mary Ann Chance and she was shown as Catharine A. Mears, age 19, the daughter of Jas. & Mary Mears.      Catherine was born on 9 January 1859 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of James R. (of Jesse) Mears and Mary Phillips.      According to her marriage record, Lola B. Chance was born in 1898 and was living in Onley at the time of her marriage. Mrs. Charles Furniss, one of Saxis' most prominent merchants, gave birth a few days ago to a robust boy and girl (Pen. Ent., 16 Sep 1922). Twins, a boy and a girl, were born to Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Furniss of Saxis on 1 Sep 1922 (Acc News, 8 Sep 1922). Lola was employed at as a Store Clerk. Lola was born in 1901 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of George C. Chance and Catherine A. 'Kitty' Mears. She married Charles Solomon Furniss Sr. on 12 December 1920 at Cashville, Acc Co, VA.¹ Lola was living in 1940 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Lola died in 1971.² Her body was interred at Bapt Ch Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Harry was born in 1920 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Harry E. Tull Sr. and Fanny (-----). Harry was on the in 1927 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Harry was living in 1940 at New Church, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Harry died in 1987.² His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.²

     Other Lenox Furniss was on a list of Acc Co's 5 per cent that was sent to Camp Lee, VA, for the Army draft (Pen. Ent., 8 Sep 1917). Pvt. Otho Furniss of the U.S. Army, who was stationed at Camp Blandon, FL, received his honorable discharge last week (Pen. Ent., 29 Sep 1944). Mr. Otho Lenox Furniss, age 41, a World War veteran, died at Veterans Hospital at Oteen, NC. He resided in Ashville and was a former resident of Saxis. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 17 Aug 1935). Otho was born on 4 October 1896 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Charles Solomon Furniss Sr. and Tryphenia Ann 'Triffy' Linton. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² Otho was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).³ He married Mildred K. Linton on 6 January 1920 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.⁴ Otho died on 12 August 1935 at Veterans Hosp, Oteen, NC, at age 38.⁵ His body was interred at Bapt Ch Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶ Otho was a member of the armed forces in September 1944 serving at US Army, Pvt, Camp Blandon, FL.⁷

     Acc birth records show a Charles "S.", child of Charles S. and Triffie A. Furniss being born 6 May 1892 which is assumed to be Charles Elwood Furniss. Mr. Elwood Furniss, one of four merchants on Saxis, seems all smiles, its a bouncing baby girl (Pen. Ent., 4 Jun 1921). Mr. Charles Elwood Furniss of Lewes, DE, age 53, a native of Saxis, died 10 Mar 1947 and was buried at Saxis. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 14 Mar 1947). Evidently he was later moved to Downing's Cemetery where his tombstone is today. Charles was born on 6 May 1892 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Charles Solomon Furniss Sr. and Tryphenia Ann 'Triffy' Linton. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He married Virginia 'Virgie' M. West circa 1915.⁵ Charles was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁶ Charles died on 10 March 1947 at Lewes, Sussex Co, DE, at age 54.² His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     In addition to the children listed below for Virginia and Charles Elwood Furniss, they also raised Barbara Lee (-----) who married Ed Amador and had Virginia Ruth and Randolph. Virginia Ruth married Dennis Lorenzo. Virginia was born on 16 November 1893.² She was the daughter of Dewitt West and Frances Taylor. She married Charles Elwood Furniss circa 1915.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Virginia died on 21 June 1988 at age 94.² Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     Melissa was living at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² Miss Melissa F. Crockett and Isaac W. Furniss were married 22 Mar 1893 at the M.E. Church South, Sykes Island, by Rev. R.B. Scott.
