Bonnie was born on 15 February 1883 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of William Chesnut Lewis and Mary Ellen Marshall. Bonnie was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She married Samuel J.T.      Della was born on 24 January 1891 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of William Chesnut Lewis and Mary Ellen Marshall.      Mr. Henry Mills left (Saxis) Tuesday night for some special health resort. He seemed in a melancholy state when he left. His parting words were, "You will not hear from me if the physican can't do anything for me" (Pen. Ent., 16 Jul 1921). Mr. Henry Mills who has been ill with tuberculosis, died Monday, 22 Aug 1921, at Roanoke, VA. He left a wife and two children (Pen. Ent., 27 Aug 1921). Henry was born on 16 January 1888 at Marion, Som Co, MD.¹ He was the son of John H. Mills and Sallie J. Hall.      Mr. Walter T. Lewis of Saxis died at the Veterans Hospital at Kecoughtan on 12 Nov 1959, aged 67 years. He was born at Deep Creek on 31 Mar 1892, the son of Lorenzo and Julia Lewis. He was known as "Hob" Lewis. Survivors were listed, including 4 unnamed sisters and 4 unnamed brothers (Pen. Ent., 19 Nov 1959). Walter was living at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Walter was born on 31 March 1892 at Deep Creek, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Lorenzo H. 'Lodey' Lewis and Julia J. Melson. He married Della Mae Lewis on 22 December 1923 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.³ Walter died on 12 November 1959 at Kecoughtan, VA, at age 67.¹ His body was interred at Mt. Holly Cem, Onancock, Acc Co, VA.²

Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 87.¹ Her body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     William was born on 4 March 1897 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of William Chesnut Lewis and Mary Ellen Marshall. William died on 28 November 1897 at age 0.¹

     Conflicting evidence states that John was born circa 1848.¹ John was born circa 1855 at Accomack Co, VA.² He married Sallie J.      Mrs. Sallie J. Mills, age 41, died at Saxes 14 Mar 1901 of consumption. Her remains were taken to Maryland for interment (Pen. Ent., 23 Mar 1901). Sallie was born in December 1860 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She married John H. Mills on 4 February 1880 at Somerset Co, MD.^2,3,4 She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Sallie died on 14 March 1901 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 40.⁵

     Aviation Cadet John Earl Mills, son of Mrs. Walter T. Lewis and the late Henry E. Mills of Saxis, graduated with class 43F of student officers and aviation cadets on 26 Jun 1943 at Brooks Field, TX. He is the grandson of W.C. Lewis of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 9 Jul 1943). According to War Department announcements on 20 Apr 1944, John Earl Mills of Saxis was among 9 Virginia Army officers to receive temporary promotions in rank. Young Mills was raised from 2nd Lieutenant to Lieutenant (E.S. News, 28 Apr 1944). John was a member of the armed forces serving at US Army, Air Corps, World War II.² John was born on 31 July 1919 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Henry Earl Mills and Della Mae Lewis.      Severn James Crockett Jr. was living with his grandfather George Crockett in 1870. Evidently his father had died and his mother, Rebecca, was living with her brother John Drewer. Mr. Severn J. Crockett died at Saxis on 27 Dec 1938, aged 72 years, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 6 Jan 1939). Severn was born in 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Severn James Crockett Sr. and Rebecca Ann 'Becky' Drewer. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He married Agnes M. 'Aggie' Myers on 9 November 1890 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Severn died on 27 December 1938 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.²

     Much of the information about "Aggie" (Myers) Crockett and her family came from a slip of paper her mother, Maria Jane (Foster) Myers, wrote and was left inside her son's, Carlton Lewis, Bible. Mrs. Agnes M. Crockett, wife of Mr. Severn J. Crockett, died at Saxis on 24 Feb 1937, aged 69 years, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 27 Feb 1937). Conflicting evidence states that Agnes was born on 3 February 1868 at Portsmouth, VA.² Agnes was born on 6 February 1868 at Portsmouth, VA.³ She was the daughter of Robert Ward Myers and Maria Jane Foster. She married Severn James Crockett Jr. on 9 November 1890 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Agnes died on 24 February 1937 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 69.⁶ Her body was interred at J.W. William was born on 31 May 1891 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Severn James Crockett Jr. and Agnes M. 'Aggie' Myers. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² William was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).³ William was a member of the armed forces serving at World War I, US_Navy, SEA.⁴ He married Nellie S. Kollock circa 1925.⁵ William died on 26 October 1966 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 75.⁵ His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Nellie was born on 20 October 1905 at Chincoteague, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married William James 'Will' Crockett circa 1925.¹ Conflicting evidence states that she died on 3 May 1969.² Nellie died on 3 May 1970 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 64.¹ Her body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.³

     Manuel was born circa 1914.¹ Manuel was living in 1935 at Kingston, Somerset Co, MD.¹

     James Lewis of the US Army, who is stationed at Camp Blanding, FL, is spending a few days with his wife and parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Lewis of Saxis (Pen. Ent., 17 Mar 1944). Mrs. James Lewis received word last week that her husband, Pvt. James Lewis, of the US Army, had been wounded in the battle of Normandy. His many friends of Saxis hope the wound is very slight (Pen. Ent., 1 Sep 1944). James Carlton Lewis, aged 77 years, husband of Fairye Glenn Lewis and a lifelong resident of Saxis, died in Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD, on Tuesday, 3 Jan 1995. Born and reared on Saxis, he was the son of the late John Carlton Lewis and Myrlte Crocket Lewis. He was employed by the State of Maryland Weight and Measure Department and also was a merchant. He was a protestant and a WWII Army veteran. He was given the Army Purple Heart and was a member of Temeperanceville Masonic Lodge 121 A.F. & A.M., a member of American Legion #159 and former mayor of Saxis. Graveside services were held at Taylor Cemetery, Temperanceville, Thursday, 5 Jan 1995 at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Robert Cooper. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 7 Jan 1995). James was born on 10 September 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of John Carlton 'Carl' Lewis and Myrtle Lorraine Crockett.      Fairye was born on 8 June 1915 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of William Henry Glenn and Annie Alice Truitt. She married James Carlton Lewis Sr. on 7 August 1942 at Elkton, Cecil Co, MD.² Fairye was living in 1946 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Fairye died on 11 January 1996 at age 80.¹

     The Acck Co Deed Bk 51, pg 159, dated 29 June 1877, listed him as John Wesley Justice, Junior. John was born in January 1851 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of John Henry Justice and Mary Adeline Spence. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Mary Catherine Wilkerson on 15 July 1876.³ John was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ John was named in a deed in on 24 March 1913 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ John died circa 1913 at Accomack Co, VA.⁵

     Thomas was born in 1864 at Tangier Island, Acc Co, VA. The 1880 census puts his birth at 1866 and his obituary puts it at 1864..² He was the son of George O. Evans and Elizabeth Ann Turlington.
