Hospital, Salisbury, Wic Co, MD, at age 73. Mr. Thomas Near Lewis of Saxis died in Peninsula General Hospital on 4 May 1959, aged 73 years. He was the son of Saltha and Dolly Lewis of Sanford. The family Bible shows Lester Guy Marshall was born 29 May 1900 in Saxis, VA..^1,2 He was the son of Denard Thomas Marshall and Sarah Elizabeth 'Sadie' Moore. Lester was listed with his parents in the census of in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as a son Denard Marshall, age 0 months, borh May 1900, in HH#441 headed by D. Marshall, a 23 year old oysterman, and his wife Sadie, age 22.. Lester was listed with his parents in the census of in 1910 at Willis Wharf, N'hamp Co, VA. He was shown as a son Lester Marshall, age 9 in HH#136 headed by Denard T. Beulah was born in 1895 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Thomas Edward Evans and Amelia 'Irellie' Linton. George was born circa 1874 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of William Fletcher 'Bill Zacky' Marshall and Mary Emily Dennis.      Maude was born in January 1887 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of William Fletcher 'Bill Zacky' Marshall and Ellen H. Lewis. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Edward C. Hill on 23 February 1908 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.² She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Maude was living on 7 September 1943 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.⁴

     Lorenzo Dow Marshall was also known as Lanzy Marshall. The assumption here is that the Lorenzo Dow Marshall, who, according to Acc Co Births, was born in 1886 to William F. and Ellen, is the same as Lourenzo Marshall, aged 9, in the 1900 Census; Randy L., aged 18, in the 1910 Census; and Lourzia, age 25, in the 1920 Census. However, since Lorenzo Dow would have been 14 instead of 9 in 1900, 24 instead of 18 in 1910, and 34 instead of 25 in 1920, it could be assumed that Lorenzo Dow died young and another son was named Lorenzo, who would have been a few years younger. Mr. Lanzy W. Marshall of Saxis died on 18 Mar 1959. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 19 Mar 1959). His common name was Lanzy. Lorenzo was born on 15 May 1886 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of William Fletcher 'Bill Zacky' Marshall and Ellen H. Lewis.      Ellen J. Marshall was listed with her parents in the 1860 census and as a servant with Raymond Lewis and his wife Catherine in 1870. She was shown as married, but still referred to as a Marshall, and living with her parents in 1880 without her husband and with a child named Catherine Marshall. Evidently her husband Benjamin Thomas had died and she reverted to the use of her maiden name. She was listed as single and living with her mother in the 1900 census.      Samuel was born circa 1863 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of William Thomas Marshall and Emmaline Marshall. Thomas, a 28 year old jailor in HH#1114 headed by Wm. H. Parker, a 41 year old hotel keeper with real estate valued at $6,000.      Catherine was born in October 1879 at Virginia.¹ She was the daughter of Benjamin Thomas and Ellen J. Marshall. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1880 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹

     On 7 May 1853 Thomas E. Marshall bought 5 acres on Saxes Island for $275 from Dennard Marshall (assumed to be his brother) and his wife Elizabeth J. It was bounded on the North by William Linton, on the East by the Sanford Charity, on the South by Zacharich Marshall, and on the West by the Pocomoke Sound (Acc Deeds No. 40, p. 5). In 1860, Thomas E. Marshall, a 31 year old farmer, appears to be living between Messongo and Cattail, with his wife and 2 children. On 31 May 1860 he was "elected by the voters as constable for District #5 for two years" (Acc Orders 1860-62, p81). Henry Hall and William Fedderman were his securities when he qualified. In 1870, he was a retail merchant of 39 years, with wife and 4 children. In 1880, at 52, he was a sailor, living near Henry Hall and W.S. Knight. In 1900, at 73, he was head of a household and had been married 43 years and had had 6 children, all living. In additon to his wife Sally, age 60, there was a son Jerome, age 23, and a daughter Mary Wise, age 25, living with him. Thomas was born circa 1828 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Aaron Marshall Sr. and Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher. Thomas was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Thomas Marshall, a 22 year old laborer with real estate vauled at $210 in HH#802 headed by Aaron Marshall, a 58 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. This was on Saxis Island..² He married Sarah R. He was shown as Thomas E. Marshall, age 82. Listed with him were wife Sallie R. Marshall, age 71, they had been married 54 years; and Jerome Marshall, a 32 year old son..⁸

     John was born circa 1829 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Aaron Marshall Sr. and Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher. John was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Marshall, a 21 year old laborer in HH#802 headed by Aaron Marshall, a 58 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. This was on Saxis Island. No further record of his has been found in Acc Co..²

     James was born circa 1818 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of James Colonna and Sinah Simpson. He married Charlotte Parks on 4 January 1839 at Accomack Co, VA. Daniel Lewis was the security on the M.L.B. of James Colonna and Charlotte Parkes of Arthur..¹ James was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. Colonna, born in Acc Co, a farmer and the husband of Charlotte Colonna. His son Geo. A. Colonna gave the information..³

     On 13 Oct 1800, Nathan Linton, Sr, bought land on Saxis Island from the heirs of Isaac Marshall: William Marshall and wife Janie, (Isaac) Thomas Marshall, Mary Marshall Bell and William Broughton (husband of Isaac's daughter Martha), all of Som Co., for 127 pounds (Acc Deeds 1800-04, p. 36). The land was bordered by Pocomoke Sound, West by Benjamin Marshall and South by Thomas Fletcher and the Free School marsh. Evidently, (Isaac) Thomas Marshall failed to sign the above deed, for on 6 May 1820, Thomas Marshall of Som Co sold to Nathan Linton (must have been Nathan Jr.), for $60, land on "Sikeses" Island, any part he hath a rite to on the aforesaid island (Acc Deeds 1822-1824, p. 228).
