As William Harrison Lewis' father died when he was 8 years old and his mother was in the Insane Hospital with epilepsy, he was raised by relatives, Martin Luther and Rosa (Wooley) Marshall. He attended military school at Fishburn, VA. When he became 21 years old he inherited his father's land and money and married Thelma, a girl from Norfolk, VA. At one time he had three cars and he made three trips to Cuba. When he returned from his last trip he was flat broke. Gambling was his down fall. He retruned to the home of Martin L. and Rosa Marshall, who had raised him, bought a boat and tongued oysters during the fall and winter and during the summer he ran fishing parties from Old Raiford's Boat House at Ocean View, now Harrison's Pier. On 6 Jun 1977 he was in the Chesapeake Bay with a party of about 25 to 30 people on-board. They had a terrible wind shift to the ocean and it flipped his boat, the Dixie Lee II, upside down and about 15 people drowned, including William Harrison. He accutally choked to death, as he had cancer of throat and had a tracheostomy. William was born on 30 July 1907.1 He was the son of Samuel Absalom 'S.A.' Lewis and Bettie D. Coard. William was living in 1915.2 He married Thelma (-----) circa 1928.3 William died on 6 June 1977 at age 69.1
