Dix, a 48 year old farmer..² He married Nancy Rayfield on 31 January 1861 at Accomack Co, VA. He was a 22 year old farmer and she was age 16. They were married by J.C. Mears. John Y. Bloxom said he was over age 21..¹

     Nancy was born circa 1844 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Major Rayfield Jr. and Sarah 'Sally' Hinman. Nancy was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Nancy Rayfield, age 6 in HH#894 headed by Major Rayfield, a 46 year old farmer..² Nancy was listed with another family in the cenus of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Nancy Rayfield, a 16 year old seamstress in HH#528 headed by Teakle Taylor, a 58 year old farmer..³ She married Samuel H. Dix Sr. on 31 January 1861 at Accomack Co, VA. He was a 22 year old farmer and she was age 16. They were married by J.C. Mears. John Y. Bloxom said he was over age 21..¹

     Jewel was born on 15 August 1894 at Modest Town, Acc Co, VA. She was the daughter of Samuel Dix Jr. and Sally Robinson Small. She married Freddie Alvin Bundick circa 1910.¹ Jewel was named in her son's obituary on 16 January 1964.²

     He was a merchant. Freddie was born on 22 January 1885 at Modest Town, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of William P. Bundick and Mary T. Shrieves. He married Jewel May Dix circa 1910.¹ Freddie died on 4 September 1921 at age 36.² His body was interred at Modest Town Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     David was born on 3 March 1872 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of William P. Bundick and Mary T. Shrieves. He married Mamie Savage in 1893. He married Sally Robinson Small on 20 December 1911 at Pocomoke City, Worcester Co, MD.¹ David died on 22 December 1942 at Modest Town, Acc Co, VA, at age 70. Mr. David T. Bundick, aged 70 years of Modest Town, died at home on 22 Dec 1942. Services were conducted on 25 Dec at the Modest Town Church by Rev. George D. Eubank with interment in the Modest Town Church Cemetery. He was the son of the late William P. and Mary Powell Bundick. He was a member of the Modest Town Baptist Church. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 8 Jan 1943)..² His body was interred at Modest Town Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     William was born on 15 March 1849 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of George Thomas Bundick and Sarah A. 'Sally' Hickman.      Mary was born on 1 February 1848 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of David M. Shrieves and Sarah Ann Powell. Mary was listed with her parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Mary T. Shreaves, age 2 in HH#594 headed by David Shreaves, a 35 year old farmer..¹ She married William P. Bundick on 8 December 1870 at Zion Church, Acc Co, VA. They were married by Durary A. Woodson..³ Mary died on 5 May 1929 at age 81.² Her body was interred at Modest Town Ch Cem, Acc Co, VA.²

     Samuel H. Wessells, aged 68 years, died at Mearsville on 12 Nov 1935. Service were conducted on 13 Nov by Rev. Scott with burial in Wessells Cemetery. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 15 Nov 1935). Samuel H. Wessells' tombstone reads 1866-1935. Conflicting evidence states that Samuel was born in 1866.² Samuel was born on 12 September 1867 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.³ He was the son of Henry W. Wessells and Verneta A. Chase. He married Cora Aline Gladding on 4 January 1889 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ Samuel died on 12 November 1935 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 68.⁴ His body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.²

     Emory was born on 26 February 1870 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA. He was the son of Henry W. Wessells and Verneta A. Chase. He married Alice Lee Small on 4 December 1892 at Mappsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ Emory died on 4 May 1933 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 63. His body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.

     John was born in 1839 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.³ He was the son of Solomon J. Small and Sally Byrd. John was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Small, age 11 in HH#980 headed by Solomon J. Small, a 48 year old farmer..² He married Sarah 'Sallie' Linton on 11 May 1871 at New Church, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John J. Small, a 31 year old farmer, the son of Solomon & Sally Small, and she was shown as Sallie Linton, age 21 the daughter of Elias and Charlotte Linton. They were married by T.M.      Sarah was listed with her mother in the census of in 1850 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Sally Lintal, one month old and living with her mother Charlotte in HH#804 headed by Thomas "Lintal" age 19 and a farmer. Everyone in the household was listed as "Lintal." Both Charlotte and Thomas were shown as being born in Maryland, and all the younger children were born in Virginia..² Sarah was born in 1850 at Accomack Co, VA.³ She was the daughter of Elijah Linton and Charlotte (-----). She married John J. Small on 11 May 1871 at New Church, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John J. Small, a 31 year old farmer, the son of Solomon & Sally Small, and she was shown as Sallie Linton, age 21 the daughter of Elias and Charlotte Linton. They were married by T.M. Poulson..¹ Sarah died on 22 February 1921 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Elijah was born circa 1820 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Elijah Linton and Hannah (-----). Elijah was named in his grandfather's will on 7 November 1838 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a grandson Elijah Linton in the will of Nathan Linton..¹ He married Charlotte (-----) circa 1840.³ Elijah died circa 1849. His wife Charlotte and 3 young children were listed in HH#804 headed by Thomas "Lintal" on Saxis in the 1850 census. His youngest daughter Sally was only one month old. She was later shown as the daughter of Elias and Charlotte Linton on her 1871 marriage to John Small..

     Charlotte was born circa 1822 at Maryland.¹ She married Elijah Linton circa 1840.² Charlotte was listed with another family in the cenus of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Charlotte Lintal, age 28 and born in MD, in HH#804 headed by Thomas Lintal, a 19 year old farmer, born in MD. Also listed were Mary Lintal, age 8, born in VA; Harriet Lintal, age 4, born in VA; and Sally Lintal, age 1/12, born in VA. These were evidently her daughters. Also listed was Hannah Lintal, age 45..³

     Alice was born on 17 January 1872 at Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA. She was the daughter of John J. Small and Sarah 'Sallie' Linton. She married Emory Jackson Wessells on 4 December 1892 at Mappsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ Alice died on 17 March 1945 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 73. Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.

     Mattie was born on 30 June 1894 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Emory Jackson Wessells and Alice Lee Small. She married Leonard Franklin Byrd on 12 June 1910 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.² Mattie was living in 1962 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.³ Mattie died in 1980.⁴ Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Mrs. Cora (Gladding) Wessells, wife of Mr. Samuel Wessells, died at home near Mearsville on 25 Aug 1918, aged 46 years, survivors were listed (Acc News, 30 Aug 1918). Cora was born on 10 August 1869 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Burwell B. Gladding and Mary Ann Hickman. Conflicting evidence states that Cora was born in 1870.³ She married Samuel Henry Wessells on 4 January 1889 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ Cora died on 25 August 1918 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 49.⁴ Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.³

     Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.² Lillie was born on 24 February 1892 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Henry Wessells and Cora Aline Gladding. She married Harry W. Taylor on 3 July 1910 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.¹ Lillie was living in 1935 at Withams, Acc Co, VA.³

     Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.² Lydia was born on 24 February 1892 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Henry Wessells and Cora Aline Gladding. She married Leonard D. 'Lennie' Ayres Sr. on 12 June 1910 at MD-VA Line, Wor Co, MD.¹ Lydia was living in 1935 at Parksley, Acc Co, VA.³

     Samuel was born on 10 September 1893 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Samuel Henry Wessells and Cora Aline Gladding. Samuel was living in 1918.² Samuel died on 14 October 1920 at Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA, at age 27.¹

     Laurel was born on 1 April 1902 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Henry Wessells and Cora Aline Gladding. She married Norman Patrick Fisher before 1918.² Laurel was living in 1935 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA.³ Laurel died in 1989.⁴ Her body was interred at Wessells Cem, Mears, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Essie was born on 27 June 1886 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of William Washington 'Bud' Fisher Sr. and Julia Ann Broadwater. Essie died on 29 December 1893 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 7. Her death record shows she died on 19 Dec 1893 in the First District of brain fever at the age of 7. He mother gave the information..¹ Her body was interred at Lewis Cem, Shad Landing Rd, Sanford, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Susan was born circa 1860 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas J. (of J.) Wessells and Ann Catherine 'Caty' Wessells. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Atlantic Dist, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Evidently Henry L. Wessells was never married. In his will of 8 Dec 1882 Henry L. Wessells named: a brother William; a nephew John H.S. Wessells; necies Sarah A.E. Lankford (w/o John F. Lankford) and Mary E. Wessells; and executor Dr. Frank Fletcher. Witnesses were John T. Fletcher and Spencer Drummond. Fletcher and Drummond were also secuities for probate (Acc Wills 1882-1901, p. 29). Mr. Henry L. Wessells, age 76, died, but the exact date was not given (Pen. Ent. 28 Jun 1883). Henry was born on 28 November 1807 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Walter Wessells Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Boston. Henry was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1840 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as age 30-40, with 1 white male, 10-15 (bc 1825-1830); 2 white females, 20-30 (bc 1810-1820) and 3 slaves. Since his father Walter had died just 3 years earlier, these other persons were probably his brother, John William Custis Wessells (b 1829) and sisters, Elizabeth (bc 1814) and Anne (b 1817)..³ Henry was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Henry L. Wessells head of HH#1078, age 42 (bc 1808), and a farmer with real estate valued at $6,000. Also in his household were Hetty A. Wessells, age 25 (bc 1825); John W. Wessells, age 21; and Levi Staten, age 25 and black. (Note: John W. Wessells was his brother, whose full name was evidently John William Custis Wessells. It is not clear who Hetty A. Wessells was.).⁴ Henry was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Henry L. Wessels, head of HH#877, age 49 (bc 1811), and a farmer with real estate valued at $11,400 and personal property valued at $6,325. Also in his household were Elizabeth Wessels, age 35 (bc 1825) with personal property valued at $1,000; and Ann Wessels, age 32 (bc 1828) with personal property valued at $1,000. The ages of this Elizabeth and Ann do not match the ages of the 2 females living with him in 1840, which are assumed to have been his sisters Elizabeth and Ann. However, the Hetty A. Wessells listed with him in 1850 may have been the Ann Wessells listed with him in 1860 as her ages were within one year, but about 10 years younger then the actual age of his sister Ann..⁵ Henry died in June 1883 at Accomack Co, VA, at age 75.⁶ Henry's will was probated on 25 June 1883 at Accomack Co, VA.⁷

     Sarah was born on 18 September 1809 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Walter Wessells Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Boston. She married John Boston on 1 September 1830 at Somerset Co, MD.² Sarah died circa 1832.³

     Colmore Wessells, age 20-30, was listed as a head of household in 1840 with no other whites and 2 slaves. Colmore Wessells' estate was administered to Henry L. Wessells (his brother) on 27 Dec 1847, with James H. Fletcher and James W. Custis, securities (Acc Orders 1845-1848, p. 456). Colmore was born on 25 October 1811 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Walter Wessells Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Boston. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1840 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.³ Colmore died in 1847 at Accomack Co, VA.⁴

     Anne was born on 28 June 1817 at Accomack Co, VA. The Wessells Prayer Book shows her birth as 1817, the 1850 census puts it at 1825 and the 1860 census puts it at 1828. This is certainly a wide spread of birth dates, and would lead one to question if this is the same person in the census as was named in the prayer book..² She was the daughter of Walter Wessells Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Boston. Anne was listed with her brother in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. It was probably her who was shown as Hetty A. Wessells, age 25 in HH#1078 headed by Henry L. Wessells, a 42 year old farmer with real estate valued at $6,000..³ Anne was listed with her brother in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Ann Wessels, age 32 in HH#877 headed by Henry L. Wessells, a 49 year old farmer. Also listed was Elizabeth Wessels, age 35, evidently her brother and sister..⁴ Anne died circa 1865 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA. She was shown with her brother Henry Wessells and sister Elizabeth Wessells in the 1870 census..^5,6

     Solomon was born on 26 May 1820 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Walter Wessells Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Boston. Solomon died before 1833.²

     Conflicting evidence states that Evelyn was born in 1882.² Evelyn was born on 3 November 1883 at Wessells Farm, Messongo Cr, Acc Co, VA.³ She was the daughter of John H. Selby Wessells and Elizabeth M. Gaskins. She married Burlyss Bruce Payne on 4 March 1904 at Marsh Market, Acc Co, VA.³ Evelyn died on 1 March 1970 at Horsey, Acc Co, VA, at age 86.³ Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     Harry Litchfield Wessells was evidently unnamed on his Acc birth record of 1888. Harry was born on 30 July 1888 at Wessells Farm, Messongo Cr, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of John H. Selby Wessells and Elizabeth M. Gaskins. He married Stella Marie Slocomb on 10 January 1917 at Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Henry (sic) L. Wessells, a 28 year old widowed farmer, the son of John H. & Lizzie H. Wessells and she was shown as Estella Slocomb, age 26, the duaghter of John & Dolly Slocomb..^1,3 Harry was living in 1940.⁴ Harry died on 28 February 1971 at NAM Hospital, Nassawadox, N'hamp Co, VA, at age 82.¹ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.

     Cornelius was employed at as a Carpenter. Cornelius was born on 14 May 1894 at Wessells Farm, Messongo Cr, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of John H. Selby Wessells and Elizabeth M. Gaskins. He married Eppie Bonnewell on 19 February 1917 at Hall's Chapel, Messongo, Acc Co, VA.¹ Cornelius was living in 1940.² Cornelius died on 29 August 1972 at Hampton, VA, at age 78.¹
