He nor his family were listed in the 1870 or 1880 Census on Saxis. Since he was a captain of steamers and since some of his children were reported as being born in Baltimore, MD, perhaps his family moved to Baltimore when he was young and this would explain why he nor them were in local census between 1870 and 1900. Peter was born circa 1843 at Accomack Co, VA. Peter William Bonawell's b.c. 1843 is based on him being the "William" listed as age 7 in the 1850 Acc Census household of George P. "Bonnewell" age 27. He was also listed as age 29 on his marriage license of 24 Dec 1872 to Eliza Lewis, which would also put his birth circa 1843. The 1900 census listed Peter as being born in Feb 1844. His obituary referred to him as Capt. Peter W. "Bonniwell" a former captain of steamers between Baltimore and other ports, and an agent for the B.C. & A. RY Co. and put his birth at 1837 (Pen. Ent., 20 Oct 1923)..1 He was the son of George Parker Bonnewell and Ellen (-----). Peter was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Bonnewell, age 7 in HH#545 headed by George P. Bonnewell, a 27 year old laborer..1 Peter was listed with another family in the cenus of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Bonawell, age 17 in HH#193 headed by Margaret A. Bonawell, age 23, who was evidently his step-mother..2 He married Drucilla Miles on 16 March 1863 at Worcester Co, MD.3 He married Eliza Ellen 'Liza' Lewis on 24 December 1872 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. Peter was a 29 year old widowed oysterman and Eliza Ellen was age 21..4 He married Amanda 'Mendie' Lewis circa 1883. Peter was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.5 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.6 Peter died on 11 October 1923 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.7 His body was interred at Glenn Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.8
