Elliott Richardson, age 23 of Saxis, VA, and Mabel Marion Turner, age 23 of Harborton, VA, were issued a Somerset Co, MD, marriage license on 21 Mar 1914, but the marriage date and place were not completed.. Elliott was living in 1939 at Crisfield, Som Co, MD.³

     Harold was born in 1894 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of John Richardson and Leigh Anna Northam.      Mr. Orville Franklin Richardson of Hampton, died in Dixie Hospital on 15 Jul 1963, aged 61 years. He was the son of John and Leigh Richardson, born at Saxis. Burial was at Downing's Cemetery. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 25 Jul 1963). Orville was born in 1902 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of John Richardson and Leigh Anna Northam.      Elizabeth was born circa 1824 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Kendall Silverthorn and Susanna Jenkins. Elizabeth was named in her father's will on 15 April 1836 at Accomack Co, VA. Only she and her brother Robert were named in her father's will..¹ Elizabeth was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth Sylverthorn the head of HH#820, age 26. Listed with her were Wm. Sylverthorn, age 6; Ann J. Sylverthorn, age 4; Winfield S. Sylverthorn, age 3; and Hessy Whittington, age 49 and black. She was living next door to James H. Fletcher, a merchant..³ Elizabeth was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Elizabeth Silverthorn, age 35 and the head of HH#39. Listed with her were William Silverthorn, age 13; Scott Silverthorn, age 10; Ansenette Silverthorn, age 16; and Hassey Sidney age 65 and black and a day laborer..⁴

     Gilbert Stant was also known as Gillett Stant. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1841-1842, p326 & p327, an indenture was made on 7 Aug 1841 between Gillet Stant, the debtor of the 1st part, and Jno. D. White, the trustee of the 2nd part, and J.T. and J.H. Fletcher the creditors of the 3rd part, is indebted to S.P, J.T. and J.H. Fletcher in the sum of $300 to be paid in 3 installments, 12 months each by bond dated 7 Aug 1841, which debt with legal interest thereon accuring and all further claim that my become...(puts up items to be sold if he defaults on debt). According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1846-1848, p628 & p629, an indenture was made on 13 Oct 1847 between Gillet Stant, of the one part, and Samuel Stant, John Stant, Riley Stant, Emeline Stant and Julia Stant, of the other part, that Gillet Stant in consideration of the sum of what money that he owes to Elizabeth Fletcher Sr. and James H. Fletcher to them in hand paid by the said the said Samuel Stant, John Stant, Riley Stant, Emeline Stant and Julia Stant and the further sum of $1 to me in hand paid by said Samuel Stant, John Stant, Riley Stant, Emeline Stant and Julia Stant...(Gillet must have used his land as collateral for his children to pay his debt). His land was described as all my plantation and land bounded on the east and north by James Northam and on the south and west by Edmond Stant, containing 25 acres. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1849-1851, p563, a deed was made on 4 Jan 1851 between James H. Fletcher and Elizabeth Ann his wife of the one part and Gillet Stant of the other part, for $300 to them paid by Gillet Stant, hath sold to Gillet Stant a parcel of land containing 25 acres adjoining the lands of James Northam and Edmond Stant and others and known as a part of Pig Point, it being the same sold by Edmund Corbin to J.T. & J.H. Fletcher. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1851-1853, p218, on 3 Jan 1852, Gillet Stant and Sally his wife and Samuel Stant and Mary his wife, sold to Henry White for $150, 4 acres bounded on the east by Edmund Stant, on the south by James Northam, running as the road goes to a certain bridge, and on the west and north by Gillet Stant. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1851-1853, p426, on 19 Jun 1852, Gillet Stant sold to John H. Stant for $100, 6 acres bounded on the south by Edmund Stant, on the north and east by Gillet Stant and on the west by Gillet Stant and others. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1862-1865, p400, on 25 Apr 1864, Edmund Stant sold to Gillet Stant for $60, 3 acres beginning at a common line between Edmund and Gillet Stant, adjoining Robert T. Hall and on the northeast by John H. Stant. According to Acc Co Deed Book, 1865-1867, p541, on 21 Jun 1866, Gilbert Stant sold to Wilbur Stant, son of Emma Stant, for $30, 1 acre bounded on the south by Henry White, on the west and north by Gilbert Stant, and on the east by T.A. Northam. According to 1850 Census, Gilbert Stant was a farmer and the value of his real estate was $400. In 1860 it was $1,000 and the value of his personal property was $400. He was shown as Gilbert Stant head of HH#AT588, a 67 year old farmer with real estate valued at $800 and personal property valued at $200. Listed with him was Sallie Stant, age 64..⁷ He married Nancy Chesser on 16 September 1879 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA. He was a 77 year old widowed farmer, the son of 'Jas & Emphunia' and she was a 50 year old widow. They were married by J.E. Bundick..¹ Gilbert died on 15 October 1885 at Shad Landing Rd, Sanford, Acc Co, VA. Gilbert Stant, aged 83, was killed on Monday by a tree falling on him at his home near Shad Landing on the Pocomoke River. A tree, which had been cut down, had lodged against another, and in the effort to fell the two together, he was caught and killed (Pen. Ent., 7 Nov 1885)..⁸

     The 1830 Census shows Aaron Marshall and his wife had five children, 2 sons under 5, 1 son 5-10 and 2 daughters 5-10. In 1840 there were 5 young males in the household, 2 under 5, 1 age 5-10, 1 age 10-15 and 1 age 15-20. Three young females age 0-5, 5-10, and 10-15. These ages indicated Aaron Marshall had children of marriageable age before 1850, possibly 2 sons and 2 daughters, however, the 1850 Census indicates only one son and one daughter were missing from the household. Aaron was a farmer in 1850, age 58, on Saxis Island. His wife Tinny was 50. He had evidently died before 1853, when his mother Patience died and his name was not included among her surviving children. There were 3 Acc Co deeds executed jointly by Aaron and his brother Zachariah Marshall in which they were the purchasers of 50 acres on Saxis Island. The first was on 2 Sep 1826 when they had a mortgage for $120 for 50 acres to Revel Lewis and George Croswell. The land was bounded on the Northeast by marsh of the Sandford Charity, South by Nathan Linton, West by Pocomoke Sound Shore, with all stock consisting of oxen, cows, calfs and etc. (Acc Deeds 1825-1827, p.508) Also on that same date there was a deed from Samuel Marshall, Senior and Triffinah, his wife, to Aaron and Zachariah for $125 for 50 acres on Saxis, bounded on the South by Nathan Linton, West and North by Pocomoke Sound and East by Sanford Charity land (Acc Deeds 1827-1828, p. 347) The third was on 17 Aug 1830 when Revel Lewis and George Croswell released Aaron and Zachariah Marshall from their mortgage on the above land (Acc Deed 1830-1832, p.83). Aaron was born circa 1794 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of James Marshall and Patience (-----). He married Matilda 'Tinny' Fisher on 21 November 1821 at Accomack Co, VA. Jesse Dickerson was the security on the M.L.B. of Aaron Marshall of Jms. and Tinny Fisher of Wm. They were married by John Cole..^3,4 Aaron was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Aaron Marshall the head of HH#802, a 58 year old farmer with real estate valued at $500. Listed with him were the following Marshalls: Tinny, age 50; Thomas, a 22 year old laborer with real estate valued at $210; John, a 21 year old laborer; James, a 19 year old oysterman; Eliza, age 17; Jane, age 14; and Aaron, age 10.      Matilda (Fisher) Marshall, at age 60, was head of a household in 1860, living with her unmarried youngest son, Aaron, Jr. According to this Census she could not read or write. The value of her real estate was listed as $100. She was listed in his household again in 1870, a widow aged 70, and again in 1880 at 80 years. Her common name was Tinny. Matilda was born circa 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of William Fisher and Sally Duncan. She married Aaron Marshall Sr. on 21 November 1821 at Accomack Co, VA.      John was born circa 1810 at Maryland. The 1850 census puts his birth at 1813 in Acc Co, VA..^2,3 He was the son of John Thomas Sr. and Molly 'Polly' Roach. John was living after 1826 at Grotons, Acc Co, VA.⁴ He married Eliza A. Lewis on 20 August 1831 at Accomack Co, VA. George Croswell was the security on the M.L.B. of John Thomas and Eliza Lewis of Revel..⁵ John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Thomas the head of HH#1142 (#1141 in the transcribed version), a 37 year old farmer. Listed with him were the following Thomas: Eliza, age 35; Lewis, a 15 year old laborer; Olivia S., age 11; Corbin, age 6; and Alonzo, age 4.      Eliza A. Lewis was also known as Elizer Lewis. Her common name was Elizer. Eliza was born circa 1812 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Revel Lewis and Permelia 'Milly' Marshall. She married John Thomas Jr. on 20 August 1831 at Accomack Co, VA. George Croswell was the security on the M.L.B. of John Thomas and Eliza Lewis of Revel..³ Eliza was listed with her husband in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Eliza Thomas, age 35 in HH#1142 headed by John Thomas, a 37 year old farmer..⁴ She married Smith Cutler on 30 April 1855 at Accomack Co, VA. They were married by Thomas Waters, a Baptist minister. Smith was age 45 and a widowed carpenter and Eliza Thomas was age 40 and also widowed, the daughter of Revel Lewis and Amelia Marshall..⁵ Eliza was listed with her husband in the census of in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Eliza Cutler, age 50 in HH#194 headed by Smith Cutler, a 50 year old carpenter..⁶ Eliza died on 9 April 1879 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Eliza Cutler, who died of infirmation at the age of 72 years. She was the daughter of Milly Lewel, born in Acc Co, a housekeeper and the wife of Smith Cutler. Her son Edw.      Wilbur was born circa 1904 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of John Richardson and Leigh Anna Northam. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹

     Her son's, John Wesley Drewer's, death certificate indicates that his mother's name was Susan Simpson. John's sister, Rebecca, listed her parents as Susan "Drewer" on her first marriage record and as Susan "Druer" on her second marriage record. The listing of only a mother on a marriage record usually indicated that the father was deceased. Rebecca also listed her place of birth as Baltimore, MD, on her first marriage record. In the 1880 Census, her son, John, listed his mother's place of birth as Virginia. Murphy's Baltimore City Directory for 1845, p. 37, lists a Mrs. Susan "Druer", 176 S. Caroline St." Her listing in the directory could imply that her husband was either not living or not living with her at the time, since directories normally listed the name of the head of the household. This is also a different street address then the one listed for John "Drewer" in the 1840-41 Directory. The 1850 Census of Maryland does not list any "Drewers." The Acc Co marriage record of Susan "Drury", widow of "Drury," and William Russell in Jan 1849, which listed Gilbert Marshall and Richard S. Taylor, securities, together with the 1850 Acc Co census, indicates that Susan's children, John and Rebecca "Drewer", were living with their step- father, William Russell, in the household of Gillett Marshall on Saxis in 1850. Perhaps Susan had died between Jan 1849 and the 1850 census. Her estimated birth date fits well with those of the females in the house hold of Revel Simpson in 1810 and 1820 and with those of Rebecca Simpson in 1830. She also named a daughter Rebecca, which could have been after her mother Rebecca. She also returned from Baltimore, as a widow, to the area where Revel and Rebecca Simpson lived to remarry in 1849. Susan was listed with her parents in the census of in 1810 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She could have been one of the 4 females under age 10 in the house hold headed by Revel Simpson..¹ Susan was born circa 1810 at Accomack Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Revell Simpson and Rebecca Chesser. Susan was listed with her parents in the census of in 1820 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She could have been one of the 3 females age 10-16 in the house hold headed by Revel Simpson..³ She married John Drewer circa 1835.⁴ Susan was living in 1845 at Baltimore, MD.⁵ She married William Russell Sr. on 24 January 1849 at Accomack Co, VA.      Clinton was born on 28 August 1906 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of John Richardson and Leigh Anna Northam. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Bessie Gertrude Cutler on 16 May 1928 at Atlantic, Acc Co, VA.³ Clinton was living in 1955.² Clinton died in April 1973 at age 66.² His body was interred at J.W. Taylor Cem, Temperanceville, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Mary was born in 1903.² She was the daughter of William F. Fisher and Effie S. Cutler. She married Orville Franklin Richardson on 10 October 1922.³ Her body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.²

     Mrs. Lillie Anna Marshall died at Saxis on 19 Jan 1940, aged 55 years, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 26 Jan 1940). Services were at the Saxis Methodist Church on 21 Jan by Rev. R.E. Forrest, with interment in the Family Cemetery. Survivors included 5 daughters, 2 sons, 1 sister and 1 brother, all of who were listed, and 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, who were not listed (E.S. News, 26 Jan 1940). Lillie was born on 1 October 1884 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Martin and Roxanna 'Annie' Wilkerson. Lillie was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² Lillie was confirmed at age 15, on 22 October 1899 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² She married William Sylvester 'Ves' Marshall on 1 July 1900 at Accomack Co, VA.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ Lillie died on 19 January 1940 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 55.⁵ Her body was interred at Dennis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Katherine was born on 10 May 1886 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Martin and Roxanna 'Annie' Wilkerson. Conflicting evidence states that Katherine was born on 25 May 1887.² Katherine was on the in 1898 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴ She married Thomas Littleton Godwin on 23 July 1905 at Somerset Co, MD.⁵ Katherine died in 1980.⁶ Her body was interred at Groton's Cem, Hallwood, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Mr. Thomas Littleton Godwin died at home at Sanford on 27 Apr 1955, aged 70 years. He was the son of the late Edmond S. & Berentts S. Hall Godwin, born and raised at Sanford. He was buried in Groton's Cemetery. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 5 May 1955). Thomas was born on 22 October 1884 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Edmund Spencer Godwin and Burnetta Susan Hall. He married Katherine May Martin on 23 July 1905 at Somerset Co, MD.³ Thomas was living on 11 August 1943 at Wilmington, New Castle Co, DE.⁴ Thomas died on 27 April 1955 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA, at age 70.¹ His body was interred at Groton's Cem, Hallwood, Acc Co, VA.⁵

     Mr. George E. Martin, aged 53 and a merchant, died on 16 Oct 1944 at home at Saxis. Services were on Tuesday 17 Oct by F.E. Clarke with interment in the family cemetery at Saxis. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 20 Oct 1944). There are no dates on George Martin Sr.'s tombstone. George was born in March 1888 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Edward Martin and Roxanna 'Annie' Wilkerson. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He married Vonie O. Smith on 30 June 1908 at Lawsonia, Som Co, MD.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ George was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁴ George died on 16 October 1944 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 56.⁵ His body was interred at Dennis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     Tabitha was born circa 1740.¹ She married Parker Miles (I) circa 1758.² Tabitha was named in her husband's will on 26 May 1796 at Accomack Co, VA. She was shown as wife Tabither Miles in the will of Parker Miles..² Tabitha died in 1796 at Accomack Co, VA.³

     George was born on 18 February 1889 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Joseph C. Cutler and Matilda A. 'Mahala' Marshall. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ George died on 10 May 1907 at age 18.² His body was interred at Cutler Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.²

     Nolan S. Cutler was one of the mem that was drafted and sent to Camp Lee from Saxis (Pen. Ent., 1 Jun 1918). Nolan S. Cutler left Saxis and moved to Newport News where he owned the Warwick Hotel at one time. He was living in Phoebus when his father died in 1935 (E.S. News, 5 Jul 1935), when his mother died in 1941 (Pen. Ent., 7 Feb 1941), when his brother, Emory, died in 1946 (Pen. Ent., 25 Oct 1946), and when his brother Joseph Beadles died in 1947 (Pen. Ent., 7 Nov 1947). Nolan was born on 4 January 1896 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Joseph C. Cutler and Matilda A. 'Mahala' Marshall. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Nolan was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁴ Nolan was a member of the armed forces on 1 June 1918 serving at Camp Lee, Petersburg, VA.⁵ He married Florence Jelia Johnson circa 1920 at Hampton, VA.² Nolan died on 19 September 1959 at Phoebus, VA, at age 63.² His body was interred at Pen Mem Pk, Newport News, VA.²

     Emory C. Cutler was living in Washington, DC at the time of his father's death in 1935 (E.S. News, 5 Jul 1935). Emory was born in March 1899 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Joseph C. Cutler and Matilda A. 'Mahala' Marshall. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² Emory was living in 1941 at Los Angeles, CA.³ Emory died on 19 October 1946 at Chicago, IL, at age 47. Mr. Emory C. Cutler died in Chicago on 19 Oct 1946, aged 47 years. Services were held at the graveside at Saxis by Rev. R.W. Grant. He was a member of the Saxis Methodist Church. Survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 25 Oct 1946)..⁴ His body was interred at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Warren Joseph Cutler must have died circa 1899 as he was not listed in the 1900 Census with his parents James and Maud Cutler. Warren was born circa 1898 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of James B. Cutler and Ellen Maud Furniss. He was christened on 25 August 1898 at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Warren died circa 1899.
