He married Florence Neil Byrd on 4 January 1882 at Accomack Co, VA.² Octavius died on 8 March 1942 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 79.¹ His body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.³

     Mrs. Florence Gladding, aged 78 years of Mearsville and wife of Octavius T. Gladding, died on 3 May 1934. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilmer at Bethel Baptist Church on 5 May with burial in Parksley Cemetery. Survivors included her husband, 1 daughter, 2 sons and 3 brothers, all of who were listed (E.S. News, 11 May 1934). Florence was born on 11 February 1857 at Muddy Creek, Acc Co, VA.² She was the daughter of Obed S. Byrd and Hetty C. 'Kitty' Mears. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Octavius T. Gladding on 4 January 1882 at Accomack Co, VA.³ Florence died on 3 May 1934 at Mearsville, Acc Co, VA, at age 77.⁴ Her body was interred at Parksley Cem, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Conflicting evidence states that she died on 3 May 1935.⁶
