     Margaret Jane Wessells was born illegitimate. Margaret Jane Wessells who married John W. Linton in 1853 and Susan E. Wessells who married Jesse T. Miles in 1868 both have Betsy Wessells as thier mother on their marriage records and a father was not listed. It is, therefore, assumed that Margaret and Susan were sisters and that their father, Betsy Wessells' husband, died before they were married. The 1850 Census shows Elizabeth (Betsy) Wessells, age 36, without a husband and living with Henny Bayly, age 46, who is also without a husband and has a small child named Wm. Bayly, age 3. Elizabeth's children are shown as Wm. Wessells, age 9, and Susan, age 3. From this, it is also assumed that Betsy's husband died before 1850. Margaret is shown in the 1850 Census, age 14, living with Elijah Kelly. The 1860 Census shows a Betsy Wessells, age 57, living on Saxis with John Spence. This age does not match the one in the 1850 Census by about 10 years, but it could be the same person. Margaret, age 22, is shown as married to John Linton in the 1860 Census, but Susan could not be located in the 1860 Census. Susan is shown in the 1880 Census, age 32, as the wife of Jesse Tho. Miles on Saxis. Margaret Jane Wessells' granddaughter, Margaret Ann (Linton) Marshall, told M.K. Miles in July 1994 that her grandmother, Margaret, and Susan Wessells were sisters. Margaret was born circa 1836 at Accomack Co, VA.2 She was the daughter of Daniel Wessells and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Wessells. Margaret was listed with another family in the cenus of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. She was shown as Margaret Wessell, age 14 in HH#246 headed by Elijah Kelly, a 43 year old farmer..3 She married John W. Linton on 5 January 1855 at at Sally Corbin's, Acc Co, VA.1 Margaret was on the in 1900 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.4 Margaret died on 27 June 1909.4 Her body was interred at Linton South Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.5

     Ralph Miles of Sykes had a narrow escape from drowning last Monday, 8 May 1897, when he fell overboard in Pocomoke Sound and was rescused by his father, Mr. John Miles. Mr. Ralph Miles died at Saxis on 14 Jan 1935, aged 56 years, survivors were listed including an adopted son, Granville McCready (Pen. Ent., 19 Jan 1935). Ralph M. Miles's tombstone does not have any dates. Ralph was born circa 1877 at Accomack Co, VA.1 He was the son of John Henry Miles and Sarah E. Linton.
