He was shown as Noah Miles, a 20 year old oysterman, born & living at Sexes Island, the son of Parker & Mary Miles and she was shown as Mary A. Linton, age 24, also born & living at Sexes Island, the daughter of Molly Linton. They were married by George H. Ewell at Betsy Young's..3 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1870 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.5 Noah died on 12 October 1902 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 57. Mr. Noah E. Miles, age about 60, died Sunday 12 Oct 1902 at his home at Saxis. He is survived by his wife and a son Noah T. Miles (Pen. Ent., 18 Oct 1902). The Noah "T." must have been an error, as Noah T. Miles was the son of Jesse Miles and Noah "A." Miles was the son of Noah E. Miles and his wife Mary. Adding to this confusion is the fact that they were both born in 1865 on Saxis..6 His body was interred at Miles South Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.4

Ent., 14 Feb 1931). Mrs. Mary A. Miles, widow of the late N.E. Miles, aged 94 years (b.c. 1837), died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Goldie Evans, in Norfolk. The funereal was at Saxis Methodist Church and was conducted by the Rev. F.T. Fulcher with interment in the Miles Cemetery. Survivors included her daughter, Goldie and N.A. Miles of Sanford, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, but their names were not listed. She was a member of the Saxix Methodist Ep. Church (E.S. John Riley Marshall is believed to have been the first postmaster on Saxis. On 30 Mar 1857, John R. Marshall was indicted for "wilfully disturbing an assembly met for the worship of God (Acc Orders 1854-57, p. 576). In the 1880 Census John R. Marshall, an oysterman, was head of a household, with wife Susan, son John at age 11 and daughter Susan at age 18. His father Robert, age 70, was living with him, as was his brother Selby Marshall, age 13. Capt. John Riley Marshall of Saxis was accidently shot in the foot by a boy on the 12th of Nov and has since been confined to his home by the wound made by fifty-one shot, the contents of the gun in the hands of the boy (Pen. Ent., 21 Nov 1903). John was born circa 1835 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He was the son of Robert Marshall and Mahala Linton. John was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. On 23 Jun 1854, John Spence and his wife Leah Ann, sold to Dennard Marshall (who had married their oldest daughter, Elizabeth J.) 33 acres on Saxes Island. The amount sold for is not clear, but also included one slave and some personal property (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 319). On 1 Nov 1855 John Spence purchased 30 acres on Saxis Island from James H. Fletcher, administrator for Thomas Fletcher, adjoining land of Washington Marshall, George Crockett and Revell Lewis for $600 (Acc Deeds No. 40, 1855-1858, p. 5). He must have died circa 1885, as he was in the 1880 Census, but was not found in the 1900 Acc Co Census. John was born circa 1799 at Somerset Co, MD.2,3 He was the son of James Spence and Elizabeth Parks. He married Leah Anna Handy Guy on 14 September 1818 at Somerset Co, MD.4 John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Spense the head of HH#799, a 51 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000, born in MD. Listed with him were the following Spenses: Anna, age 45; Maria, age 22; Sally E., age 18; Arana, age 15; Matilda, age 13; and Kesiah E., age 10. Also listed were John H. Justice, a 21 year old lablorer; Mary A. Justice, age 20; and Arintha F. Justice, age 1/12..5 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.6 He married Elizabeth Ann Turlington on 16 August 1873 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Spence, a 73 year old widowed farmer, born in Somerset Co, MD (parents not shown) and she was shown as Anne E. Evans, a 41 year old widow, born in Acc Co, VA, the daughter of John & Nancy Turlington. The were married by P.A. Leatherbury..1 John died on 11 November 1888 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He died of old age at the age of 112, born in Acc Co and was an oysterman, according to his grandson Wm. C. Lewis who gave the information. However, his age in the 1850 census was 51 and at the time of his second marriage in 1873 he was 73, placing his birth at 1799-1800 and his age at death at about 88-89..3 His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.7
