Miles was the son of Jesse Miles and Noah "A." Miles was the son of Noah E. Miles and his wife Mary.      Her common name was Susan. Louisa was born circa 1848 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA. Louisa Miles is listed in the 1850 Census as the 2 year old daughter of Parker Miles. The 1860 Census lists a Susan Miles as the 11 year old daughter of Parker Miles. Her marriage record shows her as Susan Miles, daughter of Parker Miles. Her son, John P. Marshall's death record of 1882 gives his parents as John R. and Louisa S. Marshall. Her 1894 death record showed her as Susan Marshall, age 48, putting her birth at 1846. It is therefore assumed that her full name was Louisa Susan Miles..³ She was the daughter of Parker Miles (III) and Ann Tyler.      John Riley Marshall is believed to have been the first postmaster on Saxis. On 30 Mar 1857, John R. Marshall was indicted for "wilfully disturbing an assembly met for the worship of God (Acc Orders 1854-57, p. 576). In the 1880 Census John R. Marshall, an oysterman, was head of a household, with wife Susan, son John at age 11 and daughter Susan at age 18. His father Robert, age 70, was living with him, as was his brother Selby Marshall, age 13. Capt. John Riley Marshall of Saxis was accidently shot in the foot by a boy on the 12th of Nov and has since been confined to his home by the wound made by fifty-one shot, the contents of the gun in the hands of the boy (Pen. Ent., 21 Nov 1903). John was born circa 1835 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Robert Marshall and Mahala Linton.      On 23 Jun 1854, John Spence and his wife Leah Ann, sold to Dennard Marshall (who had married their oldest daughter, Elizabeth J.) 33 acres on Saxes Island. The amount sold for is not clear, but also included one slave and some personal property (Acc Deeds No. 39, 1853-1855, p. 319). On 1 Nov 1855 John Spence purchased 30 acres on Saxis Island from James H. Fletcher, administrator for Thomas Fletcher, adjoining land of Washington Marshall, George Crockett and Revell Lewis for $600 (Acc Deeds No. 40, 1855-1858, p. 5). He must have died circa 1885, as he was in the 1880 Census, but was not found in the 1900 Acc Co Census. John was born circa 1799 at Somerset Co, MD.^2,3 He was the son of James Spence and Elizabeth Parks. He married Leah Anna Handy Guy on 14 September 1818 at Somerset Co, MD.⁴ John was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Spense the head of HH#799, a 51 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000, born in MD. Listed with him were the following Spenses: Anna, age 45; Maria, age 22; Sally E., age 18; Arana, age 15; Matilda, age 13; and Kesiah E., age 10. Also listed were John H. Justice, a 21 year old lablorer; Mary A. Justice, age 20; and Arintha F. Justice, age 1/12..⁵ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1860 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁶ He married Elizabeth Ann Turlington on 16 August 1873 at Onancock, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as John Spence, a 73 year old widowed farmer, born in Somerset Co, MD (parents not shown) and she was shown as Anne E. Evans, a 41 year old widow, born in Acc Co, VA, the daughter of John & Nancy Turlington. The were married by P.A. Leatherbury..¹ John died on 11 November 1888 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He died of old age at the age of 112, born in Acc Co and was an oysterman, according to his grandson Wm. C. Lewis who gave the information. However, his age in the 1850 census was 51 and at the time of his second marriage in 1873 he was 73, placing his birth at 1799-1800 and his age at death at about 88-89..³ His body was interred at Ellis Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁷

     Nevell was born on 8 March 1908 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was the son of Andrew Jackson 'Bud' Miles Sr. and Amelia Ann Lewis. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Nevell was living in 1941 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He married Nora Christine Hall circa 1965.⁴ Nevell died on 26 June 1990 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, at age 82.²

Nora was on the in 1917 roll of the at Meth Ch, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1920 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ She married Hilton Emanuel Marshall on 2 July 1932 at Snow Hill, Wor Co, MD.⁴ Nora was living in 1943 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁵ She married Nevell Miles circa 1965.⁶ Nora died on 29 August 2001 at Arcadia Nursing Home, Acc Co, VA, at age 86. Miles, age 86, the wife of the late Hilton Marshall and the late Neville Mies, and a resident of Saxis, who died at the Arcadia Nursing Center, Gargatha, on Wednesday, 29 Aug 2001. Born at Saxis, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Fannie Evans Hall. Interment was in the Evans Cemetery, Saxis. She was survived by a daughter Vivian Spence of Saxis, grandchildren, Keith A. Hart and David W. Hart, and great-grandchildren Lawrence David Jr., Danny N. and Ethan P. Hart..⁷ Her body was interred at Evans Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁷

     Hilton was born on 25 December 1913 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of Emanuel Manly Marshall and Eleanor Susan 'Nora' Marshall. He married Nora Christine Hall on 2 July 1932 at Snow Hill, Wor Co, MD.³ Hilton was living in 1951 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Hilton died in 1965.⁴ His body was interred at Evans Cem, Saxis, Acc Co, VA.⁴

     Uneeda was born in May 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was the son of Andrew Jackson 'Bud' Miles Sr. and Amelia Ann Lewis. Uneeda was living in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.¹ Uneeda died before 1920.²

     Mr. Parker Miles of Fort Meade is having a furlough of several days, he left Sunday for Camp (Pen. Ent., 22 May 1942). Pvt. W.P. Miles, son of Mr. Andrew J. Miles of Saxis, is at Camp Forrest, TN. He went in the Army in 1941 and was sent to Camp Butzner, NC, and then transferred to Road Island and then to Camp Forrest (Pen. Ent., 9 Jun 1944).
