     William was born on 24 February 1845 at Accomack Co, VA.3 He was the son of Edmund Grey Godwin and Elizabeth Drummond. William was listed with his parents in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Charles W. Godwin, age 5 in HH#573 headed by Edmund Godwin, a 47 year old carpenter..1 He married Lucreita 'Critty' Davis on 6 January 1870 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William C. Godwin, a 23 year old oysterman, the son of Edward & Elizth Godwin and she was shown as Critty Davis, age 24, the daughter of Henry & Hetty Davis. They were married by J.E.T. Ewell..2 William died on 21 January 1934 at Messongo, Acc Co, VA, at age 88. Mr. William C. Godwin, aged 89 years, died at his home at Messongo on 21 Jun 1934. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilmer and Fulcher. He was a member of Halls Chapel for 36 years and a deacon for 31 years. 5 surviving childern were listed (E.S. News, 26 Jan 1934). Although his obituary reads "William C." and his tombstone shows "W.C.", the 1850 Census shows "Charles W.".4 His body was interred at Drummond Cm, Finny Hall Fm, Messongo, Acc Co, VA.3

     In 1787 Raplh Corbin Sr. appeared on the Acc Co, VA, Personal Property Tax List "A" as having 2 white males above 16 and under 21 (b.c. 1766-1771) living with him; 4 blacks over 16; 6 blacks under 16; 3 horse, mares, colts, & mules; and 23 cattle. Ralph Corbin Sr.'s will, written 27 Jan 1800, specified: To wife Rachel whole estate during her natural life. To son Robert Corbin plantation where I now live containing 280 acres. To sons George and Coventon plantation at Messongo containing 125 acres. To daughter Susanna Croswell. To John Pitt Corbin, reversion to my grandaughter Sally Williams Broadwater. To 4 daughters Leah, Elizabeth, Levinah and Rosannah. Balance of estate to be divided between all my children and my grandaughter Sally William Broadwater and John Pitt Corbin. Executor: Son Robert. Witt: James Benston, James Jenkins, William Williams Jr. (Acc Wills &c. 1798-1800, p. 371). The 280 acre plantation was the Pigg Point plantation he had inherited from his father. The property remained in tact until 1832 when his son Robert (wife Elizabeth) sold 31 1/2 acres to Edmund Stant (Whitelaw, p. 1279). Ralph was born circa 1716 at Accomack Co, VA. He was the son of Robert Corbin and Anne (-----). He married Rachel (-----) circa 1760.2,3 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1787 at Accomack Co, VA.4 Ralph died in February 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.5 Ralph's will was probated on 24 February 1800 at Accomack Co, VA.5

     Rachel (-----) Corbin (R.P.P.) was listed as a head of household in the 1800 Census age over 45 (b. before 1755) with 1 son 10-16, 1 son 16-26, 1 daughter 16-26, 1 daughter 26-45, 1 free negro and 8 slaves. On 30 Mar 1818 Samuel Johnson was appointed to administer Rachel Corbin's estate. Coreaton (Coventon) Corbin and Daniel T. Bird were securities (Acc Orders 1817-1819, p. 117). It is assumed that Samuel Johnson was Rachel's son-in-law, husband of Rosannah, and that Coventon Corbin was her son. Rachel was born circa 1740. She married Ralph Corbin Sr. circa 1760.2,3 Rachel died in 1818 at Accomack Co, VA.4
