James H. and Cecie (Hall) Smith had 4 children that died at birth (James H. Smith Family Bible). Assuming that Helen Marie Smith died at birth, although Bible record shows her death 2 years after her birth to the day, only 3 of the children listed below died at birth. So there was one other child, possibly unnamed, that died at birth. Her name is spelled "Cecila" in her Bible and "Cecelia" on her tombstone. Her common name was Cecie. Cecelia was born on 13 January 1862 at Accomack Co, VA. Her tombstone shows her birth as 1861..2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Spencer Hall and Eliza Jane Duncan.      Spencer D. Hall was the captain of several steamers which sailed into the Hammocks and Hall's wharf on Messongo Creek. Mr. Spencer D. Hall and Miss Mary L. Broadwater were married at the bride's residence on 9 Jul 1890 by Rev. W.F. Hayes. A fine supper was served to numerous guests after the ceremony (Pen. Ent., 19 Jul 1890). Widely known as the skipper of bay steamers by residents of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, Capt. Spencer D. Hall, 76, of 608 Venable Avenue, died Sunday after an illness of several months. Captain Hall was born at Marsh Market, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Thmoas S. Hall, of well known upper Acc Co families. In Onancock and throughout Acc Co he will be remembered as a splendid, loveable character and he will not soon be forgotten by those who in earlier years made trips to and from Baltimore by boat. As a boy of 12 he went to sea as lookout on a sailboat operated by his father, the late Capt. Thomas S. Hall. At 18 he was master of a three masted bay work boat, and shortly thereafter became associated with the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Atlantic Railway, which at the height of its operations, before the advent of hard-surfaced roads, operated a large fleet of freighters and combination freight and passenger vessels on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Captain Hall remained with the B, C & A for nearly 40 years, retiring as a captain in 1927 when the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased the properties - including eleven steamboats, remnants of the fleet that flew the B, C & A ensign. While in the service of the B, C & A, Captain Hall served as master of such well-known vessels as the Piankitank, Avalon and the Three Rivers, the last of which while returning to Baltimore from boat races at Crisfield on July 4, 1924, burned to the water's edge off Cove Point. The fire cost the lives of ten persons, including five members of The Evening Sun Newsboys Band, which had played at the races. A promient Methodist Church layman, Captain Hall was long active in the Eclaw Methodist Church, Mayfield Avenue, near Harford road. Survivors were listed (E.S. News, 6 Jun 1947). Spencer was born on 19 December 1870 at Marsh Market, Acc Co, VA.1 He was the son of Thomas Spencer Hall and Eliza Jane Duncan. He married Mary Lee Broadwater on 9 June 1890 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA. According to the Peninsula Enterprise of 19 Jul 1890, Marsh Market Section, on 9 Jun 1890, Spencer D. Hall and Miss Mary L. Broadwater were married at the bride's residence by Rev. W.F. Hayes. A fine supper was served to numerous guests after the ceremony. He was a 19 year old sailor and she was age 17..2 Spencer was living in 1923 at Baltimore, MD.3 Spencer died on 1 June 1947 at Baltimore, MD, at age 76.4
