Se was shown as a daughter Esther Mathews (under age 16) in the will of Walter Mathews..2 Esther was named as an heir on 29 October 1685 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as Esther Mathews, one of the children of my now wife (Sarah), in the will of William Kendall Sr. She was to receive her portion when she became of age, which is part of her own father's estate as appraised by me. In a Codicil of 16 Apr 1686 he also gave my 3 daughters-in-law (meaning step-daughters) Mary, Esther & Elizabeth Mathews the 700 acres remainder of my 4,200 aces to be equally divided between them when the eldest attains lawful age..3 She married John Mapp (II) circa 1695. According to Spencer Wise, one of their descendants, they lived in Wilsonia Neck, N'hamp Co, VA..4 Esther sold land in 1702 at Accomack Co, VA. Elizabeth Mathews died without heirs in 1695 and Mary Mathews may also have died near that date, for in 1702 Esther and her husband John Mapp, for 4,600 pounds of tobacco and cask sold the 700 acres in upper Accomack which came to her and her two sisters by Col. William Kendall's will..5 Esther witnessed a will on 1 June 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Esther Mapp along with Geroge Harmanson, John [J] Douglas and Grace Rabyshaw witnessed the will of John Powell..6,7 Esther witnessed a will on 11 October 1718 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that Esther Mapp along with Walter Dixon and George Harmanson witnessed the will of Sarah Powell..8 Esther was named as an heir on 5 April 1720 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown Esther, wife of John Mapp, in the will of Robert Howson..9,10 Esther was named as an heir on 5 April 1720 at Northampton Co, VA. The inventory of her personal property showed possession not only of such necessary items as skillets and pots with pot hooks, of foot wheels, hand wheels, grindstone and anchor, flax break, two heaters, nineteen chairs, of which seven were leather, five chests and chests of drawers, bedsteads and tables, but also nineteen yards of Virginia linen, 33 and 29 yards coarse linen, one pair money scales, one Bible and five books..14,15 Esther died in January 1733.14 Esther's will was probated on 13 February 1733 at Northampton Co, VA.14

Since it appears that two of her children, Sarah and John Mathews sometimes were referred to as Sarah Custis Mathews and John Custis Mathews, perhaps she was a Custis. Sarah was born circa 1650. She married Walter Matthews circa 1668.1 Sarah was named in her husband's will on 20 August 1681 at Northampton Co, VA. She was shown as wife Sarah in the will of Walter Mathews and it was noted that she was not in Virginia at the time and that friends Andrew Smaw & wife and William Jarvis were to oversee my estate until my wife's return..1 She married Col. William Kendall on 6 June 1684 at Northampton Co, VA. After the death of Henry Mathews his wife Sarah married Col. William Kendall. The marriage agreement between Sarah Mathews, widow, and William Kendall Senr., merchant and attorney, was dated 6 Jun 1684, and acknowledged in court on 1 Dec 1684 by "Sarah Mathew, now Sarah Kendall, wife of William Kendall Sr. The will of Col. William Kendall made bequests to "the four children of my now wife, John, Mary, Esther and Elizabeth Mathews..2 Sarah was named in her husband's will on 29 October 1685 at Northampton Co, VA.
