     Bartholomew was born circa 1693 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He was the son of John Mears and Margaret Garrison. Bartholomew bought land on 1 January 1723 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Bartholomew Mears bought 100 acres of land from Richard Drummond for 5,000 pounds of tobacco (Acc Co Deeds, Wills & Etc., 1715-1729, p. 455).. He married Rachel Kellam circa 1725.2 Bartholomew bought land on 31 August 1743 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that he bought 60 acres from John Nock for 25 pounds of tobacco (Acc Co Deed & c., 1737-1746, p. 365). His land was located in the area of Gargatha and south of Modest Town. It extended up the highway almost to present day Nelsonia (Whitelaw, p. 1161).. Bartholomew was named in his father's will on 14 August 1745 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named heir-at-law of John Mears, when his father's will was probated, showing he was the oldest son. He was left no land by his father. In 1745 when his father wrote his will, Bartholomew Mears had married and bought land elsewhere..1 He made a will on 4 July 1761 at Accomack Co, VA. To son Meshack plantation where I now live with the land I bought of John Nock & should he offer to sell same the said land to go to my son Robert Mears. Wife Rachel Mears. Son Shadrick Mears. Wife Rachel & children Jonathan, Robert, Susana, Rachel, Sarah, Elizabeth, Shadrack & Leah residual legatees. Wife to bring up my son Meshack.
