(NOTE: Whitelaw was evidently assuming that Robert Elliott had a son Thomas, as the deeds themselves do not show Thomas as a son of Robert. They only show Thomas with a wife Elizabeth, has she signs over her dower rights when Thomas sells the land. Robert Elliott did not name a son Thomas in his will, but instead named only "Wife Mary Elliott sole legatee & Exec.").¹

     According to Rev. John W.A. Elliott's Ledger Book, Thomas Elliott named Franktown in honor of his first son that he named Franklin who died young. However, according to Whitelaw in 1764 the will of Ralph Batson (wife Sarah) directed that his land be sold "except on acre called new Town where Frank Andrews lives" and that it is possible that "new Town" soon became "Frank's Town" and finally the Franktown of today.
