     Billy Vessels lived on a farm near Rhodelia, now a vacant field between Mr. Sam Mattingly and Mr. Jim Rhodes, owned by Mr. Arnold. Some sources state that Billy Vessels served during the Civil War in the Confederate forces, but inquires to the Government Services Administration were unable to verify this information. After the death of Mary Emma he married Ellen Wise who had returned from the Sisters of Nazareth Community; this second marriage was childless but Vessels reared some of the children of his sister Cecilia, wife of Samuel Joseph Manning, after the death of Cecilia and Samuel. After the death of Billy, Ellen re-entered the religous life. Having broken her religious vows, she apparently encournted difficulty in finding acceptance into a religious order; but eveidently was accepted by an Order in Indiana, with the assistance, apparently, of Rev. Paul Manning O.F.M. nephew of Billy, whom Ellen and Billy had helped to rear. John was born circa 1836 at Meade Co, KY. He was the son of Thomas Wessells and Sarah Ellen O'Bryan.
