Robert was born circa 1662. He was the son of (-----) Slocomb and Sarah (-----) wife of Slocomb & Riley. He married Sarah (-----) circa 1700 at Accomack Co, VA. The fact that Robert Slocomb had a wife Sarah is based on the fact that on 26 Feb 1707/08 Sarah Ryle of Accomack County, widow, for the tender love and affaction I bare for my grandchildren hereafter named, do give as follows: To Thomas Lilliston ... ; To Anne Sloocum, daughter of Robert and Sarah Sloocum ... ; To the next child born of daughter Margaret ....1 Robert received land as a gift on 2 March 1708 at Guilford Creek, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that Obedience Pitman of Accomack Co, planter, assign & set over to farm let to Robert Slocom for 2,261 lbs tobacco 57 acres of land lying at the head of Gilford Creek being ½ of 115 acres sold by John Townsend of Accomack Co to John Read deceased & bequeathed by him the said Read to John Read his son, bounded by a conveyance from said Townsend bearing the date 5 Jan 1684. I Obedience Pitman do here by bind and obligate my self to warrant & defend the said Robert Slocome in peaceable and quiet possession of the 57 acres during the full term of 19 years all rights, housing, fencing, orchards, pasture or any other profit or convenience thereto belonging for 19 years ... And at what time the 115 acres of land shall be divided that the said Robert Slocom shall have his first choice of the same, all which I the said Obedience Ptiman do confirm with may hand and seal 2 Mar 1707/08. Witnessed by Charles Parker. Acknowledged in Court by Obedience Pitman to Robert Slocom 2 Mar 1707/08 & recorded 30 Mar 1708..2 Robert bought land in 1714 at Accomack Co, VA. It was in this year that Robert Slocombe bought 100 acres of Whitelaw's tract A137, near the present town of Mappsville, from Thomas Jester and his wife Sarah of Kent County, Delaware. In his will of 1718 Robert left his land to his son Ryley, but he had another son Thomas, who was the eldest son. In 1743, two years after Robert's estate was finally settled, the two sons united in a deed to William Andrews for the land "where Robert Slocumb the elder formerly lived." Andrews deeded it back to Ryley alone the next year, and in 1747 he sold the 100 acres to Nathaniel Shay. In 1744 Charles Stockley had sold to John Walker an unspecified acreage, which also was unbounded, saying it had been sold to him by Robert and Rebecca Slocomb by a General Court deed..3 He made a will on 6 March 1719 at Accomack Co, VA. Brother Thomas Ryley Exr. Eldest son Thomas Slocomb. Youngest son Ryley Slocomb my land. After payment of debts balance of estate to be divided between all my children. Richard Grinalds to keep my daughter Sarah untll she is 16. Francis Young to have the care of my son Bennitt until he is 21. Witt: Thomas Ryley, Richard Sanders, Edward Brotherton. (NOTE: Was Thomas Ryley a half-brother or brother-in-law?).4 Robert died before 17 February 1722. He must have been dead by this date, as Thomas Riley's will of this date named a cousin Ryley Slocomb (Robert's son) who was to have a years schooling when he arrives to age 15..5,6 Robert's estate was administered on 7 April 1724 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Robert Slocomb's estate was administered to his son & heir Thomas Slocomb. Mason Abbott & John Wilkins were securities. (Note: Robert had named his brother Thomas Riley as his Exec in his will of 1718, but Riley died before he could settle his brother's estate and named a cousin Ryley Slocomb (under age 15) in his will, written in 1721 and probated in 1724. By this time Robert's eldest son and heir-at-law Thomas Slocomb had come of age and so his father's unsettled estate was administerd to him.) It was ordered that John Johnson, John Tankard, William Nicholson and Roger Abbott (or any three of them) inventory and appraise the estate of Robt. Slocomb and report to the next court..7,8 Robert's will was probated on 24 February 1741 at Accomack Co, VA.4
