In describing the ownership of tract A172 (north of Oak Hall), Whitelaw states that the part of the tract once owned by Samuel Beavans, was later owned by Ralph Jenkins, William Silverthorne, James White, Mary Ann Broadwater (wife of David), Louisa M. Snead, and finally in 1899 the property was bought by the late W.T. Thornton. The house on the property (A172A) was know as the Broadwater or Thornton Place. The brick end of an old house stood about a hundred yards east of the highway, but it has since disappeared. The outside of the wall had the bricks laid in Flemish bond with glazed headers, which in the gable were in lines parallel with the roof lines. On the inside of the wall was a bake oven alongside the fireplace. The character of the brickwork, and the fact that originally the house consisted of only one room on the first floor, indicate an early date of construction, so it probably dated from the time of the first William Beavans, who died in 1745. The Lane-Beavans land was bounded on the north by the north head branch of Euwamus Creek, which extended across the highway..⁷ William died on 14 April 1930 at age 69.
