John Hall
M, b. circa 1695
This John Hall is mentioned in Whitelaw, p1274. In 1731 John Hall and his wife Catherine were deeded 250 acres of A151, which is on the north side of Messongo Creek near Sanford, by Catherine's mother. In that year Catherine Moore made deeds of gift of 250 acres each to her Philby children. Catherine's first husband was Stephen Philby, who died in 1687, her second was Sebastian Delastatius, who died in 1709, and her third was Edward Moore, who died in 1718. Moore left everything to his wife Catherine. Her daughter Catherine and her husband John Hall were to have the eastern half, and George Philby the western half. The Halls were to have their part only for life and then it was to go to their son Daniel. In 1785 Daniel Hall left to his son Henry, and in 1810 Henry (wife Molly) left the eastern 120 acres to his son Thomas and the western home part of 126 acres to his son Henry. John was born circa 1695. He married Catherine Philby before 1731.1 John was named in a deed in in 1731 at Accomack Co, VA.1

Ephraim Hall is shown in the Acc Co, VA, Personal Property Tax 1787, List B, p. 96, his only tithable was his self. The assumption is that the Ephraim listed as the brother of Daniel Hall in Daniel's will was the father of the Ephraim who was a seaman in the Virginia State Navy in the Revolutionary War. "It is ordered to be certified that it appears to the Court satisfactory proof that John C. Hall, Mary Ann, Eliza and John Hall, Gilbert Hall and Sophia Copes the wife of Peter Parker Copes are the only heirs at law of Ephraim Hall who was a Seaman in the Virginia State Navy in the Revolutionary War, and that the said Ephraim Hall died intestate." (Acc Orders 1832-36, p17, dated 25 Sep 1832) It should be noted that in most of the Acc Orders stating heirs of Revolutionary War veterans, it specifically mentions when the named heirs are sons or daughters. Since this is not the case with Ephraim, assumed to be the younger, it is assumed that the heirs are his brothers, sisters, necies and nephews. The mention of John C. Hall, and George the younger's infant children Mary Ann, Eliza and John Hall in George the elder's, Ephraim's and John's orders is the basis for the assumption that these three Revolutionary War Veterans were brothers and the sons of Ephraim the elder. Since he was in the 1787 tax list and not in the 1800 Census, it is assumed he died circa 1790. Ephraim was born circa 1722 at Accomack Co, VA. He was the son of John Hall and Catherine Philby. Ephraim died after 1787.2

Stephen Philby1
M, b. circa 1620, d. 1687
According to Nottingham's Certificates and Rights, p43, which refers to Acc Co Orders 1671-1673, p24, 17 Nov 1671, Stephen Philby was listed as a headright in a certificate granted to Capt. John West for 1250 acres of land for transportation of 25 persons into the colony. Stephen Philby is mentioned in Whitelaw's Virginia's Eastern Shore, p990, in descirbing the ownership of tract A90. According to Whitelaw, Christopher Thompson, who was granted the original patent for A90 in 1666, disposed of 300 acres of it in 1685 to Stephen Philby. This was generally the land on both sides of the present Accomac-Greenbush road. In 1687 Philby left to his son George, and in 1712 George and his wife Katherine of Somerset Co, MD, sold it all to Walter Scott. According to Nottingham's Wills and Administrations, p15, which refers to Acc Co Wills & Deeds 1676-1690(vi), p448, Stephen Philby's will, written 11 Dec 1686 and probated 30 Mar 1678, specified that Stephen's plantation where he then lived, being 300 acres, was to go to his son George, who was under age. He also left items to Pheby Philby and Catherine Philby, who are assumed to have been his unmarried daughters. John Bayley was the executor and Charles Fleetwood and Thomas Blake were wittness. Stephen was born circa 1620. Stephen immigrated to circa 1670.2 He married Catherine (-----) circa 1670.3,4 Stephen's will was probated on 30 March 1687 at Accomack Co, VA.5 Stephen died in 1687 at Accomack Co, VA.5
