This Thomas would have been too old to have been a son of the second James Bonnewell (1660-1702), as he purchased 300 acres of land from Daniel Jenifer in 1695 and he would have to have been over age 21 at that time. This would imply he was born no later than 1674, when the second James Bonnewell would have been only 14 years old. It is therefore assumed that he is a son of the first James Bonnewell. Thomas was born circa 1663 at Accomack Co, VA. He was the son of James Bonnewell I and Mary (-----). He married Annabella Chambers circa 1685.1 Thomas bought land in 1695 at Kegotank Creek, Acc Co, VA. Whitelaws states that in 1695 Daniel of St. Thomas and Elizabeth Jenifer sold 300 acres to Thomas Bonwell; it was north of the above and extended westward from Kegotank Creek. In 1758 Thomas Bonnewell left everything to his wife Ann. No clue was found to give the name of Ann's second husband, but in 1771 Ann Stockley, widow, left her plantation to Robert James; there was no explanation of the relationship, if any, and in the probate it was stated that William Bradford was her heir-at-law. In 1787 Robert James (wife Mary) left the north 200 acres to his son William and the balance to his son David. [NOTE: Whitelaw assumed that it was the same Thomas Bonnewell who purchased the land in 1695 that left it to his wife Ann in 1758. However, it is more likely that the Thomas who died in 1758 was the son of the Thomas who bought the land in 1695.].2 Thomas died in March 1718.3 Thomas's estate was administered on 2 April 1718 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Thomas Boniwell's estate was administered to his son George Boniwell. William Taylor & Sebastian Cropper were the securities..3
