Mrs. May (Sterling) Dennis, wife of Mr. William Dennis of Saxis, died on 19 Aug 1939, aged 63 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Daniel Ball, survivors were listed (Pen. Ent., 25 Aug 1939).      Ernest B. Dennis' Acc birth record shows 4 Apr 1892, however his tombstone at Downing's Cemetery shows 1897. One explaination might be that Ernest B. died young and they named a second child Ernest, who was born in 1897. Ernest was born on 4 April 1892 at Accomack Co, VA.¹ He was the son of George William 'Will' Dennis and Melissa May Sterling. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.² He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1910 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA.³ Ernest was living on 21 July 1917 at Saxis, Acc Co, VA, (Army Registration).⁴ He married Mary Nola Marshall on 12 January 1919 at Sanford, Acc Co, VA.⁵ Ernest died in 1967.⁶ His body was interred at Downing's Cem, Oak Hall, Acc Co, VA.⁶

     According to a memorial newpaper clipping, written by his sister Mrs. Daniel Ball of Hallwood, VA, Heward Dennis drowned 3 years eailer, 4 Jul 1938. Mr. Howard G. Dennis of Saxis, VA, was drowned on 4 July 1937, aged 35 years (Pen. Ent., 12 Jul 1962 - 25 years ago).      Mr. Dolphan Griffin, grandson of Mr. I.W. Young, formerly of Saxis, but who now resides near Pocomoke City, MD, for the past 6-8 years, died Monday, 5 Dec 1921, of typhoid fever, age 21. He was survived by a wife and 2 children, P.M. & M. James Griffin (Pen. Ent., 10 Dec 1921). Mr. & Mrs. I.W. Young of Saxis were called Wednesday to Cokesbury, MD, to attend the funeral of their grandson, Mr. Dolphin Griffin (Acc News, 9 Dec 1921). Dolphin was born in January 1897 at Accomack Co, VA.² He was the son of James A. Griffin and Mollie Blanche Young.
