According to her sister Euna (related in 2002 to Robert F. Jones), Lillie died of "complicated diseases." One day, she came home sick from school and "got down in bed" for a long time. Her lower body became so sensitive to touch that the family devised a cage-like apparatus to keep the blankets from direct contact with her skin. She would scream in pain if anything touched her. An autopsy was performed in vain with the hope that any findings might help others.
