William H. Stant's parents are proven by his mother's obituary (Sarah Ann (Corbin) Stant) which named him as a son. He was listed next to them in the 1850 Census. In a deed of 12 Jul 1856, William H. Stant bought from William S. Fletcher, for $250 land called Tims Island, bounded on the north by Messongo Creek, east and south by Corbin D. Fletcher, containing 14 acres (Acc Deeds No. 40, 1855-1858, p. 254). According to church records, he was on the Pocomoke roll in 1898 and 1900 and died in Feb 1905. In both the 1850 and 1860 Census he was listed as a sailor and in 1860 his real estate was valued at $650 and his personal property valued at $1,000. William was born on 8 September 1827 at Accomack Co, VA.2 He was the son of William Stant and Sarah Ann 'Sally' Corbin. He married Sarah A. Henderson Hay on 1 August 1848 at Accomack Co, VA. Samuel Talyor of C. was the security on the M.L.B. of William Stant and Sarah A. Hay..3 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1850 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Wm. H. Stant the head of HH#1004, a 22 year old sailor. Listed with him were Sarah Stant, age 21 and Virginia Hay, age 17. Virginia was evidently Sarah's sister..4 William was listed as a head of household in the census of in 1870 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as William Stant the head of HH#AT575, a 46 year old sailor with real estate valued at $400 and personal property valued at $100. Listed with him were the following Stants: Sarah, age 43; Corbin, age 10; Thomas, age 7; and Susan, age 4 months, born in January. Also listed with him were Euphemia Dennis, age 45, Hester Dennis, age 36 and John Dennis, age 4, all black..5 William was on the in 1898 roll of the at Pocomoke Meth Ch, Grotons, Acc Co, VA.6 William died on 29 January 1905 at Belinda, Acc Co, VA, at age 77. Wm. H. Stant died Sunday, 29 Jan 1905, at his home near Belinda, aged about 75. He was a member of the Pocomoke M.E. Church for 35 years. He was buried on the 31th. He was survived by 2 sons, Corbin F. and Joel T. Stant. His wife and daughter died in Oct and Nov of last year (Pen. Ent., 11 Feb 1905). Capt William H. Stant of upper Accomack Co died at his home in that county last week in the 75th year of his age (E.S. Herald, 17 Feb 1905). Capt. Wm. H. Stant, a very popular and well known citizen of Marsh Market, died at his home Sunday, 29 Jan 1905, with paralysis, aged about 79 years. The funeral was held at Pocomoke M.E. Church, Rev. A.L. Carson & Rev. L.M. Copeland presiding. He was buried in the family burying grounds (Acc News, 4 Feb 1905)..2 His body was interred at Broadwater Farm, Grotons, Acc Co, VA.2

Stant was on the Pocomoke roll in 1900 and 1905, took vows on 5 Aug 1900 and removed certificate in May 1905..2 Donald was living after 1905 at Bristol, VA. Donald T. Stant acquired his early training in the public schools of Accomack County, including the Jenkins Bridge Academy and Onancock High School. When he was about eighteen years of age went to work for the Seaboard Airline Railway in the main offices at Norfolk, remaining there six months, and in 1905 came to Bristol and was employed in the legal department of the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio Railroad while that line was under construction. Subsequently he became a stenographer to Judge Archer A Phlegar and at the same time read law. In 1909 he entered Washington and Lee University and did two years of law work in one. He was admitted to the bar July 10, 1910, and then became associated in practice with his former preceptor, and that relationship continued until the death of Judge Phlegar in December, 1912. Following that he was associated with the law firm Powell, Price and Shelton at Bristol until the spring of 1914, when he and A. Gray Gilmer formed a partnership for practice. George M. Warren subsequently joined them, and the firm of Gilmer, Warren and Stant continued until 1917. Since then Mr. Stant has been alone and has handled a large share of general, civil, criminal and corporation practice. His offices are on Lee Street. He possesses the qualifications of the able lawyer for public service, and has filled a number of offices with credit. He acted as city attorney of Bristol form 1914 to 1919. In Novemeber, 1915, he was elected on the democratic ticket to the House of Delegates to represent Washington County and the City of Bristol, served through the session of 1916, and was reelected in November, 1917, serving in the session of 1918 and the extra session of 1919. He did not stand for renomination in 1919. While in the House of Delegates he was a member of the committee on privileges and elections, courts of justice and rules, and was also appointed a member of the joint legislative committee to consider the advisability of adopting a state administered insurance fund under the Workmen's Compensation Law. From 1914 to 1918 he was a member of the commission of fishers of Virginia. Since January 1, 1922, Mr. Stant has been commonwealth attorney of the City of Bristol. He is a member and steward of the State Street Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He is affilated with Shelby Lodge No. 162, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, E.H. Gill Chapter No. 50, Royal Arch Masons, and has filled all the chairs except that of exalted ruler in Bristol Lodge No. 232, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is also a past chancellor of Bristol Lodge No. 37, Knights of Pythias, is president of the Kiwans Club of Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee, is secretary and treasurer of the Masonic Temple Association of Bristol, Virginia, and belongs to the Bristol and Virginia State Bar Associations. During the World War he was a member of the Legal Advisory Board of Washington County and the City of Bristol. His home is a comfortable residence located on Fairmount Avenue in Bristol (History of Virginia, Vol. VI, p. 249, 1924)..3 He married Mary Dornin on 30 June 1915 at Williamsburg, VA.3
